Sure, you can buy a bike at Target, but you shop at a bike store for personalized service. I’ve been shopping at Freewheel since it was Penn Cycle in the late 90s and purchased several bikes from them over the years.

I brought my 10-year-old daughter to the store for a bike. She’s right between bike sizes (kids vs. adults) so inventory was limited. The manager Chris was extremely helpful and pointed us to a used bike. He even remembered my daughter’s name on our second trip to the store — that’s service! We walked away satisfied and spent the whole weekend riding 👍

The chat was helpful. Answered my questions and took the extra step of confirming that although the bike I wanted was in stock (in Bloomington) that it was not yet assembled and recommended that I contact the Bloomington store directly.

Called Bloomington and spoke with Chris -- friendly, answered my questions and set some polite but realistic expectations. Was very satisfied. Then Chris stayed late, located the bike in stock and stayed late that evening assembling the bike. Wow! Chris called me back the next day shortly after the store opened up to let me know the good news. My daughter and I drove straight to the store, tested the bike (it was stellar) and purchased on the spot. Some minor adjustments for fitting and adding accessories and we were off. The smile on my daughter's face is still shining.

FreeWheel and in particular Chris exceeded my expectations each step of the way.
