Over 15-year Bike Lane customer here. Took my son's college bike, a Giant Rincon for tune up.
The bike is worth about $100. Estimate for tune up of $236 was received and felt it was way too high - and included a lot of unnecessary items, and items that I thought would be included in the so-called tune-up. Specifically, it was estimated a $20 labor charge was added to charge the new tube -- and this was added to the $100 tune up fee. What exactly does a tune up entail if not the labor cost to change a tube? Emailed Bike Lane upon receipt of their emailed estimate asking questions about the estimate and whether all items were necessary or just recommended. Never received a reply from Bike Lane. Never got a call from Bike Lane. So, we just picked it up and brought it home. We made a special trip about 1/2 hour away from our house to Bike Lane Reston for the tune up because we had always had good experiences there. From now on, we will take out business to the bike store around the corner from our house. Bike Lane has lost customers.
I appreciate having an awesome local bike shop within a mile from my home. I always feel welcome and enjoy the weekly shop road rides. I enjoy the bikes, beer, coffee, service and the people who support TBL. I hope to join a MTB shop ride sometime in the near future.

The customer service and friendliness is the best of any bike shop I've been to. Even though i wasn't going to buy a bike from The Bike Lane due to inventory, they let me ride a larger size bike to compare differently components. They took the time to get to know what I was looking for to give any advice they had. They are so nice and always make time for you!
