Tl;dr: Huge fan of the service at Freewheel Bike Eagan/Big fan of Trek bikes
I needed to switch to a step-through bike, and had been shopping around to replace my road bike and my 30-year old Trek hybrid (which was my favorite bike ever), both of which had crossbars that I could no longer get my leg over. I did some online research, and compiled a short list of bikes, all at a similar price point.
Freewheel was my third stop.
At my usual bike shop, they had one bike that I was interested in trying out, but not in love with, visually or spec-wise, but the wonky disc brakes on it weren't repaired in the 35 minutes that I waited for a test ride, so I left.
At my second stop, I had a couple of bikes in mind. One had iffy brakes, and the other (which was version 2 of a bike that I had on my list in version 3) felt horizontally cramped. The salesman couldn't seem to get the height of the seat right either, after three tries. And on top of that, when asked what the difference was between version 2 and version 3, he just told me that it was "like the difference between a 2024 and 2025 car...." (I also had to leave my driver's license and credit card (which they preemptively swiped) at the desk.)
At Freewheel, Tyson greeted me as soon as I walked in, didn't treat me like an amateur or a senior citizen when I told him what I wanted, and found version 2 of the bike I was interested immediately. He determined the correct seat height right away, and removed the rear reflector to be able to get the seat low enough. He rolled the bike right out the back
door and offered me a helmet without asking for any collateral.
When he discovered, while I was taking version 2 for a test ride, that you had version 3 in stock, and I asked about the differences, he spent some time explaining the differences to me, and then let me take that one for a test ride.
I asked if it would be possible to swap out the combo pedals from my old Trek, and he said they'd swap them out for free.
I left, saying I'd be back while the Trek sale was still on. I called my mom on the way home and told her that it was the first time in my shopping around that I'd been excited about a bike, and that I'd really appreciated the treatment I got at Freewheel.
I went back the next day with my old Trek. This time, I think it was Thomas who helped me. He was also extremely friendly and accommodating. I purchased the Verge 3, he swapped out the pedals and got my accessories sorted out, and I left because I couldn't fit two bikes in my car.
When I returned to pick up my new bike the next day, I was also greeted immediately. I'm sorry I didn't get that Freewheeler's name, but he was also friendly and helpful. He went to fetch my bike, and asked if I had any questions and if I wanted help getting the bike into the car, which I gratefully accepted.
(As for the bike, and the few accessories I added, I could not be more pleased to have a beautiful new Trek to ride.)
In short, I hope that everyone who walks through your doors has an experience similar to mine. The kind of customer interaction I had will go a long way in keeping you in business for a long time.
(Apologies, but I don't want this virtual novella used in any way other than to assure you that you are doing a great job, and to encourage you to continue to treat your customers with respect and kindness. But you can count on me recommending you enthusiastically to everyone I know.)
