Golden Bear has adapted to COVID with their online purchasing and it was easy and shipping was fast.
We dealt directly with the owner. He took the time to fit my daughter and gave us honest recommendations that were very useful. It was busy in there at the time but we still felt important.
I got great advice on the decision to upgrade my old commuter into a decent road bike vs buying a used roadie. I got sized for my new mountain bike shoes despite the place being very busy.
Employees were very friendly and patient. Even though they were very busy they made sure all of our questions were answered.

This was our first time in the store. The day prior, we had gone into another bike shop and couldn't find what we were looking for. We did a Google search of bike shops in the area and found Golden Bear. From the moment we stepped in the door until we checked out, I knew we made the right decision in waiting until we found the right shop! Ian was Awesome.. so friendly and knowledgeable. Never pressured us into buying anything and listened to exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely recommend Golden Bear to anyone looking for a bicycle and will be coming back for all of our tune ups and accessories. Thank you for the great experience. Everything the staff the merchandise the information the help. This was the best experience at a major purchase I have ever had.
They take my bike right in and the work is done in a timely manner. Always eager and polite. HOWEVER.... my last visit was for a service tune up (gears, sprockets), and adjustment. The bike was still under warranty so the work was "free", which is good because I wouldn't want to pay for this last service work. It was unsatisfactory, and the gear adjustments were not done correctly. I can't downshift from the big sprocket (3) to (2) directly. I have to shift to the smallest sprocket (1) then back up to (2). The chain has come off TWICE during moving gear shifts. I've put about a hundred miles on the bike since the work was done, hoping the cables and gears would find their own equilibrium after the maintenance work. They have not. The gears are once again a mess. I live about 15 miles from Golden Bear, so it's not exactly easy to take that bike back and forth for re-do. I suppose that will be required soon, however.
I otherwise love the store, my purchase of the Marlin 7 and the service I've received at times prior. But I'm disappointed in this visit. Bear has done better.
Alister was excellent to work with. My sister and I went to the shop looking for new bikes and he shared info on several different models with pros and cons for each based on how we plan to use them. We were in the shop for 3 hours and both of us are very excited about our purchases. Thank Al!
