Friendly and very helpful teachers and lovely staff. They make me feel like their my family! That's why I'm very happy and grateful with Sylvan. My son is getting better grades and very confident at his school, and that's very important for his future. Thanks so much to all the staffs of Sylvan.
We are still fairly new to the program and can't quite give an adequate enough answer; but we like it so far.
Quick. Easy.
I think you are doing a great job with my daughter. We are just 5 weeks or so into using Sylvan, and I can imagine I will be using the Center going forward.
Better communication between managers and tutors - we keep having issues where we discuss something at a meeting and it is not communicated to the tutors or the scheduler. Very frustrating.
First 40 hrs of math tutoring did not show evidence of improvements. Very frustrating for the student and parents, to put in so much time and effort to show very little for it.
Too many admin. staff changes over last 9 months, which loses any continunity of service. Feel lost in the shuffle.
It is easy to reach admin. staff and the directors, but I don't know much about the tutors nor have I meet or talked to them, yet they communicate and connect with my daughter for her sessions. Writen comments from the tutors working with my daughter, letting us know her strenghts and weakness would be more helpful instesd of just receiving a sterile print out report.
It seems strange that I had to ask for a quiet room away from distractions for my daughter to take assessments. I felt this should be a given since Sylvan has been educating and tutoring for many years.
The responsiveness of Jerry Fassio, and the instructors, Rostom and Tessa. Jerry has made a huge difference in our decision to continue with Sylvan, and we will miss him greatly. We wish him the very best as he begins a new chapter in his life.
I like how some of the staff are very attentive and dedicated to the students. Especially, Dave, he is simply the best and a great asset to the Sylvan team.
It is a good after school tutorial Center.I recommend it to any parent that needs help.
Excellent
Not seeing improvement in spelling and writing yet. Feel he needs more work with his penmanship skills.
Offer a broader scope of subjects. Would love to have science & geography in the mix. Otherwise, we had a positive experience and will probably try Sylvan for supplementary classes in math.
With the seemingly high turnover for the Director of Education position (not sure if that is the correct job title: the person who you meet with after every 10 hours of tutoring to discuss progress position),I question the buesness model.
Everyone is very supportive and the teachers treat the students with kindness and respect.
Flexibility. The study skills program seems to be helping my youngest daughter. Being able to go someplace to focus on homework and get support seems to help both daughters who are attending. My youngest is not waiting until the last minute to do her projects and seems to be finishing her homework more easily.
The assessment to determine where my child's gaps are, small group work, individualized attention, re-testing to ensure they are competent and reinforcement.
I feel welcomed and encouraged.
teachers and flexible working practices with customers. you treat the children like your own. thank you
making sure the sessions are actually 30 minutes then have the student do feedback.
Dear Sylvan Learning Center,
This summer, I have a plan for Karen Last name removed going back to your center to learn more Geometry 2H, who is getting lower score at her high School in San Francisco, CA 94121.
Sincerely,
First name removed Ha
courteous nad willing to work with our schedule
Pretty much everything. Jaclyn has been fantastic, especially when it came to addressing the concerns I had early on. Claudia is a joy to work with. Bella has learned so much from Stephanie and Nicole and the other tutors at Sylvan. I feel as if there is this amazing second family committed to helping my daughter succeed and I am so grateful.
my son went from a struggling young student to really catching up with his classmates.
The care taken with the students is beyond just the job.
I feel welcomed and encouraged
Do sessions with the parents on occasion
I saw improvement right away. My son's command of language and english grammar led to him getting higher grades and scoring higher on his tests.
I'm just not feeling the connection that I had hoped to feel in terms of getting comprehensive feedback about how Bella is doing, and how the program is being individually tailored to meet her needs and to be responsive to them in a meaningful way. I was encouraged after talking to Jaclyn last week that efforts would be made to place Bella with 1 of 2 outgoing, bubbely female instructors, but last night she was placed with another new teacher, a male. Meanwhile, Bella keeps communicating to me that the work she's being asked to do is "too easy." This is frustrating, because her classroom teacher continues to stress how much help she needs in long division and multiplication. While I understand and respect the "foundation" approach of filling in the gaps, I'm not convinced that it's helping. I'm not really sure whether or not Bella's complaints that the work she is being given is "too easy" are accurate or a facade, but wish that I did not need to wait until the end of March to get some concrete feedback from Sylvan about how she is performing during the sessions. It would also be reassuring to know that there are instructors who are following her regularly and that there is well thought out continuity from session to session to the extent that one instructor passes on his/her impressions of Bella's strengths and needs to the next person. What impressed me most about Sylvan going in was the "it takes a village" approach, but I am not seeing or feeling that in practice and I remain deeply concerned about my daughter.
