I enjoy the facility - the weight room is perfect for me, with both machines and free weights. I play racquetball, so Lakewood is the best place for me to play.
Finally, the staff at the Lakewood Y is fantastic. I can't say enough nice things about them.

I have been a member of Lakewood since I have spent 27 years living in Durham. I served on the board when we were re-purposing the Lakewood facility.And spent many hours trying to save our landmark. We game up with an historic solution in a very bad real estate commercial market. We prevailed and negotiated a fabulous space and kept our Lakewood family together! There are several things that could improve at the Y. There seems to be an on going problem of members sitting on machines and messing with their phones. I do not mean changing the music. They are ready e-mails or watching videos. Mean while it clogs up the process of circuit training. We need someone who can motivate people to either continue working out or move to the lounge. I do not feel it is a member responsibility to say something. It is the same with folks coming out of the steam room, all sweaty and sitting in our lounge.I am sure they do not do this at home. These are a few things that would make the "Y" better. Lakewood Y is awesome! Let's make it better. Jay

The front desk staff are very helpful and they always want to help. The facility is always clean and the steam room and Sanua works.
Lakewood has great staff who make everyone feel welcome. Also, there is a wide selection of classes and opportunities to explore different types of exercise. There is also a strong group of senior ping pong players who are friendly and welcoming. The Thrive program is just starting, and Lakewood has been very encouraging to new ping pong players who have come to Lakewood for this program.
The hours are accommodating to working parents. The value is good. It’s great to have swim to break up some of the days.
The counselors are great!
Our kid woke us early up every morning ready to go to camp!
I also enjoyed the Facebook page updates so you could get glimpses into their day and know they were safe/well taken care of

My child has come home everyday excited for the next day. I love the interactions the counselors have with the campers and the schedule. The orientation was a plus!

So far, so VERY good! Our family is enjoying the beautiful, and well maintained premises, as well as different great services you offer. The KidsClub is particularly convenient for families with children, and Mari, Kimberly and Gloria (at YMCA Hope Valley) are particularly caring with our toddler boys. All staff has been very friendly with us, and are always willing to help and go the extra mile. We are very happy with our decision of joining YMCA, a month ago.
