Steam room works consistently.
The classes- specifically Nancy’s aerobics class. I also maintain my Y membership because of Kit’s PiYo class at the downtown Y on Saturday mornings.
The gym and locker room at Lakewood are in great condition, and the staff is always very welcoming, friendly, and helpful!

There are excellent instructors at the ymcas in the durham area. Lots of class choices great facilities and equipment. We are so lucky to have 4 and then if you include the short drive to Chapel Hill five sites to choose from. I’m always finding there are more and more classes to choose from and it’s a really difficult choice. Weight class or yoga?
We are a community of sorts. Exercise joins most of us as a supportive social group.

It was a welcoming and uplifting experience. The space is clean, open, bright. The staff greeted me so warmly. And the Pound class I took with "Lady J" was SO awesome. It was my first ever and she was so encouraging, and created a really fun space. The other Pounders were welcoming too. It was clear that she has a following, and I'm excited to be part of the gang. The open gym area has really tall ceilings and was full of equipment. I'm looking forward to using the treadmill and machines!
I only went once, to check it out, since I usually go to the American Tobacco Y, but the front desk woman was very friendly and showed me around the facilities. It also wasn't too crowded. The locker rooms were clean and well tended. I plan to play racquetball with my daughter in your courts. And use the sauna...

I love the community at the Lakewood YMCA but really wish there were more classes in the evening after work hours! 5-7pm would be the sweet spot. I really wish there were more group fitness classes that fit the schedule of a person working 9-5pm!
I like the staff, the uncrowded space and the exercise equipment and options.
The good exercise equipment, the roomy locker room, the steam room and sauna. I have made quite a few friends there and seeing them is something I look forward to.

The Lakewood Y is very quiet and the staff is very helpful. It’s such a small group that goes there and members know each other. It’s always clean and I like the outdoor track.

Had a great experience in this week’s Thursday Zumba class. Teacher exuded so much joy! Attendees as well! It was a very uplifting experience to participate! Thanks YMCA!
Amazing front desk staff - friendly (but not overly friendly), competent, accommodating. I once had a front desk staff member call me back right after I called to tell me that, in fact, the class I had just called about was actually cancelled. Specifically love the 6am weekday staff!
