I've been a member for 31 yrs. I've have nothing but respect for the association. Everybody there is like family. I've never felt more at home and respected than the people there. The people are great - desk staff, group fitness instructors, and the other members. And the location is convenient and parking is usually easy.
Steam room low key and maturity
Good size not too big. Cleanliness. Friendly staff. Updated equipment. Not crowded
I like the small setting, quiet and relaxing environment. Staff are friendly and helpful if you need something.
Gym members are courteous and respectful to each other.
I feel very happy and pleased with YMCA because my girl is happy, they do activities and socialize with other children. I feel safe and calm that she is in a safe and cared for place until I pick her up. I would recommend it 100%, I have even talked to other parents about my satisfactory experience with the after school YMCA. I feel really happy just like my daughter.

Lori the instructor is great. However parking at this location is not good. a lot of people not going to the gym take all the parking spots which is very unfair for people trying to use the gym and have to find parking somewhere else.
I like the location, the staff and the scale of the Lakewood Y.
Very welcoming environment and really appreciated the short-term membership since we were renting in Durham for two weeks.
The studio is nice and the instructors are great. But I’d like more pilates or barre offerings in the mornings on weekdays. Or have Brianna’s pilates class twice a week!
I like all the Durham Ys but I think Lakewood is my favorite. Maybe because it's smaller so the atmosphere is more easygoing. I enjoy the strength training classes & use a few of the machines. If the weather is good I walk the track behind the building. The music playlist there is great!
