So, I’ve been going to Josh’s Zumba classes for over a year and really love his classes. And I don’t think it was very fair of you guys to put another Zumba class at the exact same time as his on Saturday mornings.
Thanks for your time.
I have been meeting my daughter at 6:30pm Friday evenings to workout in your weight room. It’s also teen night. I thought what a great idea, somewhere safe and wholesome for teens to come together on a Friday night, however last week as we looked around the kids were just running wild everywhere, yelling, climbing up back stairwell wall and it seemed there was no rules, no order, no structured activities that they were engaged in. My daughter looked at me and said “this is an accident waiting to happen”. She used to work at the YMCA Bremerton and never remembered that kind of chaos there.
Fast forward to last night when we were all of a sudden told we were in lockdown and to go immediately to the gym. Most of the kids were in there when we got there but soon they all started running out of the gym to the front of the Y. We couldn’t hear a thing so assumed lockdown was over and started to leave as well. But then the front staff started pushing them back into the gym and we got stuck in the middle in the hallway with kids pushing out, kids being pushed back in and it made for a real uncomfortable situation. Finally back in the gym the kids were so noisy you could not hear anything the staff was trying to tell us. We had no idea if there was a lost child or if there was an active shooter. I still don’t know what the reason for lockdown. Your staff had very little control of these kids in a very uncomfortable situation with no ability to make announcements because the kids were being so loud. As I looked around I realized the only thing we could do was sit and wait so we found a semi safe spot on the bleachers (figured we could always drop down between them if there was a shooter). Finally they let us out and we were escorted to get our stuff in the weight room by the sheriff. We never did hear any direct communication from your staff (due to noise level), and that’s shameful.
I think teen night could be a great idea but there needs to be structure, rules, some sort of order, but most of all a plan in an emergency situation to control these kids. From my point of view your staff was trying but they were completely ill equipped to handle the situation.
