Excellent communication- what is going on, class schedules, class descriptions, what to know about Pickle Ball or whatever it is called, COVID policies and any changes to policies, if part of the gym will be unavailable on a specific date and time.
Walks the talk regarding community engagement
offers the opportunity to try new things- I went sea kayaking last year!
Knowledgeable and engaged instructors
I am middle-aged, and it can be challenging to find ways to connect with other people socially. Since joining the Salem Y I have made some gym acquaintances that I look forward to seeing in class- we encourage each other, and then after class we might sit at a table in the lobby to chat a bit. It's just nice to have this light engagement organically happen, it has nothing to do with work, or family and it makes me feel like part of the community in Salem.
Finally, I regularly see a lot of kids at the Y- maybe jr high? High School? I like that- it tells me that the Y is a safe and comfortable place to be. I also noticed that more exercise programming is being developed just for teenagers, and I think its great as well.
The Salem Y has fabulous customer service, great customer experience, updated equipment/ classes & has the energy feeling like a welcoming community center.
The staff is lovely. It's a good value.
Friendly, clean, supportive.
I love the Y it has so much to offer everyone of every age!!
Nancy is a FABULOUS swim teacher for my 4 year old son. She is unfazed by his tears and antics at the start of class, and by the end she has him smiling and giggling in the water. I'm so thrilled he can learn with her in a small class.
Many choices for programming and facilities!
My son attends the pre-school Shark's academy swim class. He enjoys being in the pool and helps him engage with other young kids and the instructor. My only concern at times is that the class size can be too big and each student has limited time with the instructor. I definitely think if the classes were smaller or if it had two instructors, it would help him learn quickly.
Sparkling clean facilities, well-maintained and new machines, great classes.
You rock-staff is great :) It is unpretentious :) Although I miss dance class and belly dance
It’s clean and well organized, great classes and I love the pool. It’s a terrific local YMCA.
I like Salem YMCA because it has huge amounts of yoga classes!
I really like it so far! Everyone is super nice and the programs and services are great.
Friendly, great aqua aerobics class, clean!
The 8nstructor is fantastic and doesn't let my boys give up or be lazy. She is so great with the kids.
I like the aquatics program because it is well run and the coaches are very clear with their instructions, for both kids and adults.
The coaches also seem to care more about the kids learning than pushing for winning...or fun even. They instill the competitive spirit by pushing the kids to push themselves.
Variety of activities, open to all, support for youth and seniors in our communjtu
Clean, great classes and very good staff
I really enjoyed my time working one on one with Tracy, the classes are great and the facilities are really nice! It can be a bit busy at times but that’s pretty unavoidable.

It's convenient and a great community. I like the fact that I can have a family membership at a low cost, overall.
