I like the variety and the skill building. I love how everyone greets one another. That alone has done wonders for my child’s confidence and enjoyment of the experience. People outside of camp have commented on how he is greeting them and he has become even more outgoing.
But what I like most is that you have taught him water safety without fear!!!! He is confident kayaking on his own and is much more comfortable with the fundamentals of swimming!!!! I am THRILLED!
Actually, no, what I like the MOST is the representation of Black and Latinx people in the camp’s leadership. My child is Black and it’s amazing for him to see people who look like him managing the camp. All of the counselors are fun, active, young role models and he adores them. He even calls them his friends!
I wish his public school leadership was this reflective of the population it serves. Please know that each and every day you are making a positive difference in a very impressionable child’s life, and I am grateful.
I can recall being a day camper decades ago and thinking that my college age camp counselors were the coolest people on earth and I love seeing him have a similar experience with people who are encouraging, kind, and keeping him safe every day.
This is his first year of camp, ever, and you have absolutely knocked it out of the park in terms of giving him a positive experience.
My daughter loves going to camp at the YMCA at Salem. So many different activities and she gets to play with kids from her school.
Staff is nice and the kids always enjoy being there and meeting other kids.
It has almost everything one needs plus great classes with great teachers - Beth Shultz, Jen Brehob - love these ladies and their work outs !!!
My child has been attending the Salem YMCA’s Theater Program for over five years and we love it! Justin Hatch and his staff have been an amazing support in our lives. He runs my child’s favorite camp!
Friendly, close to my home
The staff are wonderful at the Y. From the trainers to the desk staff. My only suggestion would be to offer parking stickers to Y members. You don't have to pay for parking when visiting the other Y's, but you have to pay for it at the Salem Y.
You get access to many gyms throughout the northeast. The location of the Salem Y makes it the most convenient gym for anyone living downtown. The Beverly Y nearby is likely one of the best gyms in the area in terms of equipment and layout.
The hardest part of working out is....just getting there! My husband and I are lucky that we can walk to the Salem Y to use the pool, the weight room, classes, etc. The instructors are committed, all the tools are provided -- all you need to bring is your positive can-do attitude.
The Y is friendly, welcoming, and professional. All of my questions are answered with a smile. I've learned a lot about my health and physique. This staff could work at any high-end gym and fit right in.
There are lots of group fitness classes.
Great staff good classes nice place very welcoming
Other Y locations, like the one in Beverly, may have much better parking, but that is not an issue for me. (And if you come in the early morning, there is still plenty of parking available, and it's free until 8:00 AM.) The facility itself has much more to offer on the inside than you'd think from the outside. The pool is a little small, but I usually go for the gym equipment. The fitness room is packed with equipment to make best use of available space. The equipment is up-to-date and well-maintained, and the facility is very clean overall. There are several water stations where you can fill up your travel mug, and stay hydrated. Best of all, in the thick of summer: The AC is very effective! :)
The variety of activities that is done with the kids each day.
My student had so much fun he wanted to sign up for more weeks! The activities are varied and engaging! We would definitely recommend the program!
great staff and program
The Y of the North Shore is a national, state-wide and city-wide treasure. It brings the community together and offers programs for wellness at a reasonable price.
The Monday Wednesday Friday 8:30 Hydro Fit class led by Pauline is a unique water aerobics class, as evidenced by the consistently large class size, although there are no sign ups. Instructor Pauline’s expert guidance in understanding anatomy, protecting muscles and joints, while strengthening them, provides enhanced quality of life. It is a friendly and enjoyable class. The pool space is roomy, the lifequards are respectful, and the music supports the energy. Many of the participants live in other communities where parking is free at their community Y and water aerobics is also offered, yet they choose the Salem class, even in winter.
Friendly staff
Convenient location
Wide variety of programs
The Salem Y has the best, most mature, most respectful atmosphere of any of the North Shore Ys! The various rooms are always clean and organized and the machines are kept in great shape.
The workout floor supervisors at the Salem Y are the best. They are always friendly, always available to answer questions or even spot you in a pinch, and they are always tidying up. They work so hard to make this a great place to work out. I hope they get a raise! Seriously. They make a huge difference. Spend any amount of time at Marblehead, for example, and you'll see the difference. Investing in the people who make the Salem Y the best really has an impact. Thank you!
It’s a wonderful community.
The classes offered are great(water aerobics, Zumba dance in water, and forest river water aerobics). The people who attend the Y are friendly, a great group. The life guards are supportive and helpful. My grandson love the swimming coach Michael! Many programs offered for young folks. And it’s walking distance from our home.
It's laid back and not as crowded as other gyms.
The Salem Y Is consistently spotlessly clean and The fitness center where the machines are Is well-maintained and there is always a staff member to assist you If you need help. Everyone is kind and helpful. I love coming here!
Very kind staff, nice facilities
I like the class variety and the instructors, especially Beth, Eme, and Gina.
Great Y, I do wish the hose was back in the steam room. It's nice to hose off the bench before you sit.
I enjoy the people who work at the Y as well as the people I meet during my visits.
Good facilities. Good location. Great teachers.

I like how busy you keep the children.
Have too many different activities.
Staff are friendly.
And too many other good things.
Thank you
