I like the morning indoor cycling classes and the weight machines. The classes are motivating, and classmates are nice.
It has all one needs. The relationship with staff and other members are second to none. You become family. The only complaint is parking. I wish the Durham City Manager would give the Y more land to park.
Everything is always clean and well-stocked. Staff are always wonderfully helpful and friendly, and there are so many equipment, activity, and class options! I love the Y

I frequented the downtown Y for a very long time until covid. Actually, I tried going back several times, but staff were not doing a good job enforcing the mask policy. So I left the downtown Y. Later, I returned, but I visit Lakewood more than downtown. I still have friends downtown, but Lakewood has a group of us old guys that have become good friends and Ping Pong had much to do with that becoming a reality.
Saturday was my first time to visit the Downtown Y. I liked it a lot, and was (pleasantly) surprised to find that parking was easy and accessible. In addition, there was plenty of gym space, and the facility was not too crowded. Finally, the staff was very helpful, and made sure I could find my way around. Highly recommend!
I appreciate the friendly personnel and clean safe environment. It was a hassel-free experience.

I like group fitness classes.
The hand rail on the stairs going up from the lobby is perpetually sticky fo ryears and needs to be stripped and repainted

I need to take this chance to mention the parking issue at the downtown branch. It seems clear that some people who park in the lot are not Y members. If we had cardstock parking passes, to display in our cars, and cars without the passes initially got warnings but eventually got towed, this might solve the problem.
I like seeing a lot of familiar faces - including many of the staff and members. I am greeted immediately when I sign in at the front desk. I also enjoy that the members are a range of ages.

The downtown Durham YMCA is a great place to work out. The staff is very friendly and there are so many great activities to enjoy.
Hours of operation. All facilities are usually available. The wet area is no longer clean as it used to be. I would encourage you to make sure that the steam room and sauna are always on. Member reaction is bad when they are not clean and open. The drain pipes stink to high heaven often.
Membership was super easy. Dee was wonderful at explaining how everything works. She gave a great tour and answered all of our questions.
