I love the family vibe. I hate leaving my son anywhere, so the fact that we can do family swim together, use the child care room and be together in almost any space in the YMCA is great!
I attend the senior exercise group and love it. It gives me 2 hrs. a week to move as much as I can. The atmosphere is wonderful, the teacher, is fantastic and allows us to be us. No judgements, just fun and comraderie.....
Great teachers. Great classes
The thing I like most about the programs and activities are the availability. The staff is incredible, I can’t say enough about the staff. I have been to YMCA all over the Massachusetts area and metro north is by far head and shoulders above the others. What makes Metro North special are the people that run it. The people at the front are so kind. I’ve walked into YMCAs in the area and it was unwelcoming uninviting cold. When you go to metro north, it’s warm, kind and friendly. I would recommend any and everyone to join the YMCA, especially if you have a family, the amount of activities and benefits supersede any monthly cost.
I appreciate the variety of options from different classes to the amount of time for adult lap swim.
I enjoy the yoga classes and the pickle ball classes and drop-ins although I don’t get there
As much as I would like to.
I am a senior and I think the monthly fee for Senior Membership should be lower.
I was nervous about starting the Live Strong program. I think I did very well and I am continuing to work out. I convinced my husband to become a member of the current class and I am accompanying him on his journey. I am continuing on the extra classes I attended while I was doing Live Strong.
The staff at the Melrose Y, are very friendly and helpful. They a very good job trying to keep the facility clean and updated.

Friendly and knowledgeable instructors and volunteers. They show enthusiasm and motivate me to work for positive results. I am part of Courtenay (and Jeff's) Livestrong group.
Awesome facility and spring programs
They have the programs that fit my needs and a lot of other programs that my friends all love. Be happy!
The classes and instructors are great
I love the variety of classes. And the teachers are all fabulous. They are very adept in their ability to teach to every level of fitness without missing a beat.
It very good.
I am very impressed with the offerings of the fitness program and the professionalism of the fitness staff. The booking application is very useful and easy to navigate. The front counter staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is well maintained and is always being updated and improved. It is a beautiful old building! A great value proposition and more importantly the feeling of being a part of a community is the Melrose Y.
The people are knowledgeable and friendly, and the equipment is well maintained.
I am 75. I just use the fitness center, rowing machines and shower facilities. I don’t use the Y for programs or activities. My daughter and grandkids do and they live with me. We have a family membership. My wife and I have been members for decades. They seem to like the options available to them. Open time on the basketball court is a plus for my grandson. The Y is clearly a valued resource for the community. The staff are always very helpful and make all feel very welcomed. The staff are a major plus. Overall the Y is great. Keep up the programs and activities.
My only suggestion is to try and pay more attention to facility maintenance. A major task for sure but issues often persist for weeks. The boy’s locker room next to the men’s locker room has been in serious disrepair for a very long time. A serious water leak from ceiling plumbing near the exit door to the rear stairway has been dripping into trash containers for weeks and often overflow on the floor from lack of attention. Recently there has been activity in that area but progress is slow. Also there is a faulty shower water valve in the adjacent men’s locker room does not fully close which drips and wastes water. This has been dripping for weeks. Little problems like this just seem to go unnoticed. Maintenance in a large multi use facility like the Y is difficult for sure but maintenance seems to lack sufficient dedicated staff and adequate budget to retain contractors when needed. That is my only suggestion for more attention. Thanks for all the Y does for the community. Keep it up.
