Cost, convenience
I go to the group exercise classes, I've had Stefanie, Lauren and Veronica and LOVE all three!
Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. A great place to meet people from the community. It’s great to be able to go to other locations.
Most of all, I like the people who run the Melrose Y. There is a wide variety of activities and the staff always makes you feel welcome and included. The attention to community needs at all levels is inspiring. I feel proud to be a member of the Melrose Y.
The gym is very clean and quiet despite how busy it is . The stay fit senior class is very well done. I haven’t tried other classes yet but am sure they are as good as the senior class

People are never a baby, but the packing is not good there
Friendly staff, lots of available programming
I like the classes but more importantly the instructors. Great energy and positivity.
Toddler swim is great! My son has learned a lot and the instructors are great (Ashley + Roubins). I appreciate how the program took my feedback between the last session and this one - we've definitely noticed a huge improvement in the quality of the class.
Price w/membership. Good people. Consistent
The trainers are great
The facilities are kept clean.
The workout room downstairs can get crowded at times but is usually managable.
I wish we had a hot tub!
I go to water aerobics on Mon and Fri.
The instructors (Mary, Scott) are FABULOUS
Just need to keep the class sizes at 14-16. Too many makes it difficult to stay away from the deep end drop-off!
Small classes
The instructors are attentive, group sizes are small, I feel like safety is emphasized.
The youth swim instructors remain consistent from season to season. This helps our child feel comfortable since he sees familiar faces.

I am 75. I just use the fitness center, rowing machines and shower facilities. I don’t use the Y for programs or activities. My daughter and grandkids do and they live with me. We have a family membership. My wife and I have been members for decades. They seem to like the options available to them. Open time on the basketball court is a plus for my grandson. The Y is clearly a valued resource for the community. The staff are always very helpful and make all feel very welcomed. The staff are a major plus. Overall the Y is great. Keep up the programs and activities.
My only suggestion is to try and pay more attention to facility maintenance. A major task for sure but issues often persist for weeks. The boy’s locker room next to the men’s locker room has been in serious disrepair for a very long time. A serious water leak from ceiling plumbing near the exit door to the rear stairway has been dripping into trash containers for weeks and often overflow on the floor from lack of attention. Recently there has been activity in that area but progress is slow. Also there is a faulty shower water valve in the adjacent men’s locker room does not fully close which drips and wastes water. This has been dripping for weeks. Little problems like this just seem to go unnoticed. Maintenance in a large multi use facility like the Y is difficult for sure but maintenance seems to lack sufficient dedicated staff and adequate budget to retain contractors when needed. That is my only suggestion for more attention. Thanks for all the Y does for the community. Keep it up.
