Water aerobics is enjoyable and healthy - have tried 2 different instructors with both having different type classes - the variety is appreciated
The location and some of the classes.
A few observations - love the new cardio and weights area on the second floor. Last year, it was very warm in there even in the early morning (7:30am). Wondering if something can be done to keep the heat out, maybe window treatments? Not sure
I just signed up for a Reformer class and was waitlisted but I don't recall getting an email telling me that. I did receive an email that I got into that class. Not sure if I was supposed to get an email telling me I was waitlisted.
I like the availability of aqua classes each morning! The classes are challenging and fun, and all three instructors are very enthusiastic. Please consider offering more 7:PM evening classes (not just Mondays).
Our family members enjoy the kids' learn to swim classes-it's been much more consistent and smoothly run since Reubens Guerrier took charge, and the instructors do a great job with the kids under his supervision. We've tried the evening Family Swim which is a nice addition to the line up, and hope to try out the weekend offerings soon.
The Family changing rooms are very helpful! They could be cleaner (dirty diapers really need to be disposed of more frequently, and the cubicles are pretty cruddy with heavy use and could use bigger benches, and hooks).
The women's locker room has been greatly improved over the last year. The addition of better quality curtains in the women's showers and changing cubicles have made a huge difference (no more cheap, easily ripped plastic ones!), and the area is always kept clean. Would love to see hooks in the cubicles!
The only real negative? The sign up process is absolutely anxiety-producing! The website is convoluted and confusing. If you're not on line by 6AM on sign up day, classes quickly fill and students are shut out. It would be nice to offer currently enrolled students the chance to sign up on the same day in the class indicated on their "report cards" before the stampede.
Overall, the Y is a great place to be!
The instructors are very friendly. They have a good routine of exercises however they will remind the class to stay within our ability.
This is important to me where I have had hip replacement surgery.
Also the class participants are friendly. The class is very enjoyable!
The YMCA shines because of its amazing trainers!
I am a devoted member of Team Lauren Sanford. She's a phenomenal trainer who provides constant encouragement and creativity in her instruction. She keeps her programs playful and varied, and she troubleshoots form to keep things aligned and safe. It's the first time in my life I've ever been excited to go to the gym - progressive overload is where it's at! Since I started working with Lauren, I'm doing lower body compound movements at heavier than my body weight and I'm able to move with confidence in the world.
I can't recommend Menopause Fitness more highly. Nicole Wade is a glittering gem among the trainers, a gifted teacher of Pilates and weight/mobility training. You can tell that Menopause Fitness is one of the bright lights in her week, and she inspires us to try things that we couldn't imagine we're capable of. Her course does a great overview of compound and accessory movement options, and it's incredibly motivating to be working with a group of women in my age group, maintaining strength heading into the second half of our lives.
Roubins is fantastic! He knows how to make an informative and engaging class with the youngest of kids just starting out in the water. My daughter has loved going to all his sessions and we hope to continue with him !
Ruebins is a great Director! Our kids were lucky to have him as a teacher. We’ve had great experiences with the other teachers as well.
Fitness classes for every level

A friendly and courteous staff. Wide range of fitness classes and various choices in exercise equipment.
love PT and classes with lauren - she is an AWESOME trainer and instructor
The swim exercise program is healthy and makes my body feel so much better, each time I attend.
Every day of the week has a different instructor so a lot of variety!
My husband and I enjoy the gym, the pool and everything pertaining to improving and maintaining our mobility, health and well being - the 'Y' has it all. The bonus is the friendly and helpful instructors and forming friendships with others of the same interests.
As always, the staff helps us to think about making and keeping our physical fitness, but also keeps the class laughing and working harder. Great splash-mates make it even more fun and focused. Thanks!
Great staff, nice facility

I love the way I feel after doing an aquatic swim class three times a week. Also love using the weight room whenever I can.
Really appreciate the reformer Pilates class!
The classes are fantastic - enough to motivate me to attend at 6AM in the freezing cold! The equipment is also well maintained, and I have never had to wait for a machine.
I love the Melrose YMCA. It is a welcoming community with amazing staff who are committed to helping people meet their health and fitness goals.

I love the chair yoga classes and wish you offered more. The class is so full each day it’s offered if you don’t sign up in the day you’re able to the class is full and the waitlist can be as long as 14 waiting to get in
Also the senior fit class taught by Kay is also great and always different. Kudos to Kay
