I like Kaimuki YMCA because it's convenient for me to get to, the staff is professional, very friendly, and helpful. I'm very impressed with how well they've utilized the limited space they have and the breadth of classes provided. All the instructors are great, meaning they are knowledgeable and good at what they do, are friendly, encouraging, work to make the class fun and are very welcoming to all new attendees. In the limited space they worked to provide the best assortment of equipment and classes.
The staff at Kaimuki Y is awesome! Everyone makes you feel welcomed and so very attentive. Instructors are upbeat, great coaches, positive and encouraging and make workout FUN!
You make friends and look forward to going to class!
Much more convenient than Nuuanu. Not crowded and has everything I need.
Making new friends
Aloha,
The atmosphere is typically local style, very laid back. The director and her staff treat everyone like ohana. There is a concerted effort by management to maintain the facility, the equipment in the free weight area has been recently updated. Unlike most other fitness centers, the membership are mostly kupuna. There isn’t the common pressure of competing for equipment use, the often aggressive, macho attitude of body builders and power lifters. Instead, kupuna are friendly, often talking story with each other, politely sharing use of all the equipment.
However, there is a concern expressed by the regulars who frequent the free weight area. In all the other exercise rooms there are signs reminding members to sanitize all equipment before and after use. But in the free weight area, there are no signs. Other than the regulars, newer, less frequent members to this area never sanitize any equipment. Just some signs on the glass doors by the squat rack, entrance/exit door, DB racks, etc would make a hugh difference. Also, it may be helpful to remind staff conducting potential new member tours to mention sanitation to them. As kupuna who are most susceptible to illnesses, this lack of proper sanitation causes apprehension when using the free weight area. Mahalo for your attention to this matter on behalf of all the kupuna regulars.
Everyone is so welcoming and inclusive. My wife and I love the Mossa Group Power classes.
Friendly staff, variety of activities, serves our community well.
Good instructors
Nice staff
The staff, instructors, and community are wonderful. The pool is warm and inviting. It’s not just about staying or getting in shape physically, it is also about meeting people, making friends, and taking care of each other.
Everyone from staff to members are nice. I feel the presence of Aloha here
I love everything and everyone I encounter at Kaimuki-Waialae Y! I feel welcomed and supported by staff and instructors alike, and enjoy the warm camaraderie of my classmates. Here I find a sense of family and community, and this motivates me to keep coming back regularly to participate in fun activities that support and improve my health. Mahalo nui loa, Kaimuki Y!! Aloha, Naomi ❤️
The people and the variety of classes and activities.
I like meeting new people and getting my body in shape. I’m loving Silver and Fit and deep water pool exercises. I structure Yoli and Debra make exercise fun. I’m feeling really lucky 🍀 and blessed to have the opportunity to attend classes.

Good people working.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
It's down home, low key
I was impressed with very kind and informative staff & very nice people in the water class & very supportive instructor!
Close to home, easy to use equipment
I love the pool being open at night for swimming. The staff is also very positive.
Yoli and Clint make their classes fun with enthusiasm, patience, professionalism, and humor. Diverse abilities and skills levels are catered to, and they make all new comers feel welcome, , as well. Their example of caring and leadership engender the same qualities in all class participants who become everyone’s cheering section!! Things are different in the summer, but your program serves our keiki well, and it is advantageous to have exposure to the young in our senior years. I had not really been in touch with the Y since my now 50 and 45 year-old sons had swimming lessons there. I have been so thoroughly impressed with the options and care given to Kupuna, both inside of class and also as a warm friendly place to gather and socialize with each other. I have recommended the Kaimuki-Waialae YMCA to all my friends, and appreciate the friendliness of all your staff!
Nice congenial staff and most of participants. Small community. But parking is a huge problem.
Pleasant staff and members
Location members and staff
Clift leads tai chi with careful attention to each of us, and keeps us up to date on current research on how tai chi helps with fall prevention. He is a skilled tai chi instructor who encourages us to practice and improve. My balance is definitely better than when I started tai chi.
Caroline is skilled at connecting with each of us. She may even know each members first name, and greets us personally each day with a smile.
Wonderful instructors, life guards, staff, & members!
