I like the water classes but I don't like how the classes are interrupted by people talking holding the classes up. I also do not like hiw the classes have been pushed into all different times to accommodate the summer kids. They should be working around the schedule we have all had all winter long. I pay alit of money to be there also.
Hi, I sent the following email that I would like a response to. Thank you, First name removed
I wanted to reach out regarding the Fairfield YMCA's locker room policy. I recently reviewed the Child Safety & Locker Room Guidelines and saw that children ages 6 and under may accompany a parent into the corresponding locker room, while children ages 7 and older should use the locker room that aligns with their gender identity or expression.
Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the experience in practice. I've repeatedly seen boys who appear to be elementary-school age (approximately 8–9 years old) in the women's locker room.
As a mom of three, I completely understand the challenge parents face. I'll eventually be in the same situation as my young son gets older, so this isn't meant as criticism of families who are doing their best.
My older daughter is already very aware when boys are in the women's locker room. She notices it immediately and has told me it makes her uncomfortable. As she gets older and begins recognizing classmates from school, I'm concerned that discomfort will only increase. I don't think children should have to worry about encountering opposite-sex classmates while changing, and I believe all children deserve an expectation of privacy as they get older.
I also understand there are private changing stalls available in the women’s locker room, but for families like mine, they're often not a practical solution. Trying to change three young children, help with swimsuits and towels, and get everyone ready while changing myself makes using an individual stall unrealistic.
I'm hoping you can help me understand how the Fairfield YMCA communicates and enforces its existing locker room policy. If the current approach isn't working, are there any plans to improve enforcement or explore additional family changing options? I appreciate everything the YMCA does for families, and I'm raising this because I believe the current policy is reasonable. I would simply like to see it consistently followed so that the privacy and comfort of all members are respected.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.
Pool
Flexible open hours
Classes
Friendly staff. Good workout facility. I haven't used the pool so no comment on it.
Counselor seem less focused on the kids at sometimes, looking at their phones and socializing with each other.
I love all
My kids have been through the Y summer lessons before at the outdoor center and we’ve been happy. Unfortunately, the instructor this session has been underwhelming and my child hasn’t been able to develop.
As the pool is open to other Y members, the lesson area has been overcrowded on multiple days with no one from the Y making sure the lessons had their space and allowed other kids to keep interrupting the classes. The area where lessons are occurring should be clear of other swimmers.
My son loves going to camp at Woodruff. The staff is very friendly, and we love going there to exercise and have fun.
I would definitely recommend Fairfield YMCA Aquatics to my friends and family. I enrolled my son in the half-day swim school for a week, and he absolutely loved it. The instructors were great, and he had such a positive experience. It was one of the best programs we've tried, and I would definitely sign him up again!
We have had a very positive experience with the Woodruff Family YMCA Day Camp. The staff are friendly, caring, and enthusiastic, and they create a safe and welcoming environment for the children. Our kids enjoy the variety of activities, stay active and engaged throughout the day, and always have something fun to tell us when they get home. We also appreciate the strong sense of community and the confidence that our children are being well cared for.
The counselors, Jennifer, the themed days make it so much fun too!
The flexibility
Staff is great. Obviously the drop off/pick-up situation can improve.
The staff is professional and friendly. The pool and the gym are great.
My son loves Camp tepee. Every year since kindergarten he starts counting down the time till camp Tepee around March. He loves the variety of activities and has made life long friends . I love that he is out doors and being active.
My kids are having a great time this year!
My son loves the games, activities and of course, swimming. It’s the perfect camp.
My. Son loves going to the ymca
My daughter has been in the program for several years and is now a CIT. great opportunity for growth
Miss Eliza is the best. The YMCA is very lucky to have her. The kids respect her and she truly loves what she does. I feel safe knowing she is there around my child
Traffic is the biggest detractor. Perhaps the Y could hire a police officer to direct traffic for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon?
The variety of activities that they do with the kids.
Counselors genuinely happy to be there and kids are happy to go
Gym
I find the snack situation a bit of a challenge. Given that we cannot send anything with nuts and there is no refrigeration of snacks, recommend that snacks be provided by the camp.
Camp Tepee is the best! My daughter is excited for each day. She's never bored and her counselors are always engaged and caring. Cannot wait for her to go back later this summer.
The Woodruff YMCA is a great place for kids to meet and have fun in the summer
I wish on extremely hot days the kids could go inside.
My daughter thinks it is the best summer camp experience. She loves the councilors, camp friends she's made, the activities and field trips.
While I greatly appreciate the Stingrays swim program very much, I do feel much more attention needs to go to the coaching structure and support. I do feel more specialized coaching and training should be considered. Swim has become an extremely competitive and specialized sport, and it is important to keep our swimmers engaged and growing as they mature through the program. I also think it would be very, very important to improve the culture among the swim team members and their coaches. More dedication to building bonds between team members and ensuring mutual support. Most importantly, I think more attention should be given to the mental health development of our swimmers. Our children are growing up in extraordinarily challenging times. A successful swim program needs to not only focus on their physical development, but their emotional development as well.

I love all the activities that my children participate in. I love how my children come home and can’t stop talking about how much fun they had and they just love all of the counselors.
