All the people are exceptional - top to bottom! Toby the director & Mike the facilities manager are the best humans alive! Everyone is so nice and capable. I spend MANY hours in the gym with my grandson playing basketball. It is home away from home and we love it there.
The comradery of Candi's 7:30 Water Aerobics class. Candi really keeps us motivated and has us following her rules. We have to learn the names of everyone in the class, this helps us all say hello and smile which builds community. We have a 'word of the week', always an affirmation. When asked 'how are you?' we should always answer with our word of the week. This week it's 'Jolly, ho ho ho', but it could be 'bodacious' or 'amazing', thankful, grateful, glorious or blessed (you get the idea!) . If we continue this outside of the Y it doesn't take too long before people actually ask us what the word for the week is.
The comradery of the class has developed into friendships that go way beyond the normal Y experience, we are in our second year of holding a holiday bazaar where ALL the proceeds remain right here at the Lakewood Y, it's an event that we look forward to and that even our newest class mates seem to enjoy. We also hold monthly pot lucks (at 8:30 in the morning - can you believe). Thirteen of us went to Symphony Tacoma this November to see J'Nai Bridges, a two time Grammy award winner operatic singer, who's mother is a drop-in member of our class. Plus several class members meet monthly to play Bunco.
Last but not least, we like the cafe at the Y where we gather for coffee with other members after class and solve all the problems of the world - or at least give it a go!
That it is geared for families. Having child care on site, and all the classes.

Many classes and activities offered for us parents and our kids. Love our CommitFit instructor Amy! The class really feels like a community - fun, warm, and welcoming people. Our daughter has really progressed well with her swimming lessons. We have enjoyed being members of the Lakewood YMCA for over a decade.
