Member Testimonials
The Pearl street YMCA feels like members are a home away from home. The YMCA offers classes to young children as well as senior citizens and any age between. My wife and I are seniors and after taking classes as well as lots of walking on the track , we have developed close friendships will other YMCA members. As we age many seniors seem more aware and are motivated to develop and keep more healthy lifestyle habits and include exercise as part of that equation. The YMCA and the activity’s that are offered are a very important daily routine for my wife and I. Bob and Patti Young, University Place.
I bring my grandson there to swim in the new pool area and lazy river. It is so much fun. I love all of the different swim options. I love the temperature of the water and the room in general. I love the lockers and how clean and new everything is. I love the splash playground for young kids. This is a wonderful upgrade and I am so lucky to live close by and have easy access.
Go check it out for sure.

Lots of activities for everyone.
Very clean, pool is warm, friendly staff. This is our first session so haven’t attended many classes but the swim classes seem to be run well.
Offers a variety individual programs and exercise classes for all ages, experienced instructors, and a friendly environment.
Friendly personnel, clean environment, pleasant YMCA members. Great hours, excellent equipment.
I go to the Lakewood YMCA.
I was avoiding going to the Y after work for a while because there was usually a wait for the weight equipment I wanted. This was before the new building opened. I'm so happy with the weight room expansion and I hope leadership will continue to notice what is most in demand and plan accordingly.
Helpful staff
The staff is always friendly and helpful. And the rooms and machines are clean.
The friendly staff and fellow members are much appreciated. The pool is nice, and I am getting used to the new locker room.
Family oriented, programs and activities for all ages.
Clean facility, friendly staff & convenient exercise classes.
The dressing rooms are clean. The pools are a lot of fun, and that's what we primarily use. It's a good way to spend the afternoon with the grandkids!
Our whole family loves this place, we spend every evening in YMCA 🥰 Sports activities for the kids and a gym for us ❤️
THE KIND AND NICE PEOPLE YOU MEET. STAFF AND PEOPLE THAT USE THE YMCA
I like the new facility’s weight room and swimming pool. However, the men’s locker room in the new building has limited space for changing and privacy while changing. When there are more than 3-4 people in each area, it’s not a comfortable space to undress/dress in. Hopefully the next phase building will include more locker rooms and space similar to the existing building.
I love the new facility, but there are a few things that miss the mark and present safety issues.
1. Mixed gender sauna. I felt safe in the women's only sauna in the old facility. I will not enter when it is filled with men.
2. I need to wear a towel with no suit on the bottoms when I use a sauna and cannot do this in the mixed gender/public facility.
3. The shower and bathroom stalls are overkill since the changing rooms are not mixed gender. This presents a safety hazard. If someone loses consciousness in a stall it may go unnoticed for some time. It is much safer to have curtains.
For what it's worth, when I use the stalls I turn the lock to red without latching so doors can still be opened easily.
4. I miss the old weights upstairs by the mens old changing room. Will these come back in the new facility?
5. The locker room is crowded. Will the new facility also have a locker/changing room?
I like the cleanliness and the welcoming staff
Comprehensive facility regarding equipment and exercise modalities.
The new gym is nice
The new gym is amazing, same family, local vibe, but with new equipment and facilities!
Variety of equipment and classes
I love the YMCA, it’s mission, its staff!
Realizing it’s a brand new building with always a few things that just don’t work out right but in my last five visits three times the steam room was not functional. Today I learned something interesting when I brought it to the attention of the lifeguard she said oh yeah people push the emergency thing thinking it generates more steam. I think it probably needs a better sign however, after she fiddled with things for a good 10 minutes, still no success and when I told the front desk about it. They seem confused and didn’t know what to do. as well, there should be a sign, letting people know about the timer that you have to manually set when Time runs out, same for the spa. It’s not really apparent unless you see someone else doing it because no one informs you how they work
Otherwise it’s a lovely facility and we are very lucky to have it and thank you so much for doing such a great job designing and building it
Welcoming and helpful vibe by staff upon entering, clean and easy to navigate the facility.
I would like a hex bar for dead lift
generally great amenities, love the lap pool and the hours are great for me
The pool and all the exercise equipment and that is not all located in the same room.

I love the "Y". :-)
Three times a week I do chair yoga, walk a couple of miles on the inside track and work out on 5 of the resistance training machines in the new building.
The staff is friendly and very helpful with any questions.
The building is clean and very well maintained.
