The group classes
friednly, uncroweded, morning pickleball
Friendly staff and the majority of them call you by your name.
Staff is excellent and love the salt water pool! Appreciate this is an adults only facility!
I appreciate the adults-only policy. I use the Y for swimming three days a week to keep in shape. The pool almost always has a lane open for me. I've been going to Y's since 1962.
water exercise class
I love playing pickleball and lifting weights.
Its the cleanest most spic and span of all the Y locations in Pierce County and its like that every single time I visit. I also like that is is smaller and easier to get around in.
Community health programs, good hours, friendly and helpful front desk employees, weightlifting equipment,
The staff are incredible. Supportive and friendly.
I love that this location is always clean, friendly, and helped me temporarily lower membership fees due to low/no income.
However, the new construction for the weight rooms is taking longer than expected and parking at this location can be a little difficult at peak times.
The community
The environment and people.
I like all of the Y's. Good staff, great classes and nice, clean facilities. I particularly like how each Y reflects the community in which it operates.
Activities available. Hours of operation. Friendly staff.
I absolutely love the YMCA and I’d recommend it to anybody for the environment and the people and the equipment
Very intimate set up, good facility, accommodating staff and well kept.
The community.
Its never crowded
I enjoy the cal peaceful friendly environment of Tacoma center, Ymca. I enjoy the swimming pool during the times when it’s open swim and there aren’t any classes going on. My available time for swimming is only in the evenings. It has been great during this time, but I see that the Y is changing things and filling up the evening with classes and pool volleyball. If this happens there will be very limited time for peaceful swimming since only one or two lanes will be allocated for all the evening lap swimmers. There will be several swimmers in each lane. Most of my workout is backstroke which is difficult to do in shared lanes. I hit others or the rope which hurts. I will have to go swimming somewhere else. I will miss the Tacoma center.
I love the Pearl Street Y!
Convenient
The nice people who share my workout class, motivates me to keep going.
The front desk folks are always so nice and friendly! And I think it's great there's some cultural diversity as well too
The long-standing Tacoma Center members are the best ambassadors. Hoping that relatively new staff will continue to look for opportunities to engage.
Friendly staff, nice facilities, easy parking, relaxed atmosphere and great customers
Pool
I like the inclusive atmosphere - as an old, small woman, no one gives me the stink eye for being in the squat room, and members and staff have been kind and helpful as I get back into being a gym regular. I like that it isn't crowded (I know, you'd rather have more folks in there!), that it is kept clean, broken items or those needing attention get taken care of. I like the care shown by staff in welcoming the shower program folks, and have not felt uncomfortable with that (I was discouraged a few years back by car-dwellers using the lot and hanging out all day - it felt unsafe to leave my car in the lot back then).
Finally, call out to Jenna B for her enthusiasm and knowledge (and science-based approach) in her Intro to Its class, Muscle Up, and her glutes and hips class (which she should offer again! I know it was poorly promoted and poorly attended, but it was great).
I am getting back into the pool after a long hiatus, but that is a big draw for me (and again, appreciate staff encouragement and care). You have a good team there at the Downtown Y!
The entire staff at the YMCA Tacoma Center is kind and helpful. I appreciate the community outreach they do in Tacoma as well.
