Accessible clean and friendly
The variety of group fitness classes and the open hours. The indoor track is also great.
I appreciate your facility-I went to another branch in Tacoma for awhile & in the last year I have switched to Tacoma Center.
I recently visited my “old” Y & was stunned at how much more comfortable I am at Tacoma Center!
The vibe is so friendly & people are genuinely interested in me (employees & other members!)
Tacoma Center is very clean & has great classes & instructors.
Thank you!
I have been going to the downtown Y since the late 80's. I love everything about it. There have a lot of changes, all for the good. Any changes made have all made the Y a better place.
everything
It’s a fantastic location, it’s smaller and more inclusive than any of the other locations. That it has a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna that is not at full capacity makes my heart sing. I can come in later at night to swim laps without all the crazy noise and people running around wanting to share my lane, etc. Not that I won’t share a lane - it’s just nice there are only a few people asking instead of 5 or 6 people. We’ve been members at the Pearl Street YMCA and loved every activity and swim lessons and support we received for me and my children. But now that they are almost ready for college - they hang out at the UW YMCA for the activities there and then atmosphere gives them time to chill out in a non pressured environment It’s a win win for our family. Hope that Helps.
I came in last night (11/21/25) and had an outstanding experience with Hunter who conducted my facility tour and helped me open a membership. He was extremely knowledgeable about the wide variety of benefits/perks available at this location, and took time to point out features that were relevant to my specific goals/needs. I peppered him with a million questions, and he was able to answer 99% of them thoroughly off the top of his head. What really impressed me is that in the 1-2 instances where he didn’t know an answer immediately, Hunter took time to track down the info and point me in the right direction, rather than saying “I don’t know.”
The desk was fairly busy last night, with multiple members and employees requesting assistance. In each instance, he managed his time efficiently to resolve the issue quickly while coaching employees for future success. Finally, Hunter excels at connecting with people over friendly conversation, whether it’s about fitness goals or explaining his dope sea creature tattoos!
I’ve worked in multiple customer service environments (including working at a YMCA in high school), and know firsthand that customer service workers usually hear far more negative feedback than positive. I’m sharing this review to ensure that Hunter’s commitment to excellence doesn’t go unnoticed, because he is clearly a valuable asset to the Tacoma Center YMCA team!
Every thing
Great gym, and a very solid social mission. I appreciate the staff very much and the way they help people who are obviously struggling.

Great facility and friendly, helpful team!
Great customer service and a huge variety of workout options to choose from, plus massage is available.
Close to my home, quiet, usually not crowded in the areas I use.
I love the energy. The employees. The pool. The equipment. All the amenities
Proximity to where I currently live.
Friendly staff.
Aquatics - Jacuzzi - Steam Room - Nice Locker Room & showers.
Nice community of people enjoying fitness and comraderie.
i was able to put a community together for myself very easily, because so many members are so warm and welcoming of others.
It's kept clean and very consistent in operation.
I enjoy the variety of classes and the camaraderie I feel with other members doing them. Everyone is so supportive of one another.
I love the fact that this location is adult only. The Y has great programs for kids, but a person/family that doesn’t have kids wants to workout with no barriers (programs taking up space, kids running around, etc), it’s nice to have a place to go for a more relaxed atmosphere. The front desk staff had been really friendly and easy going and I haven’t run into issues with parking. I haven’t used much of the facility, but am enjoying the pool, and the fact that it is mostly available for my use during the times I am available to go. That said, I really enjoyed meeting and swimming with the masters’ team at the end of October, and am really upset that the hours were changed. 5:00 pm is an unacceptable time, as most people work until 5.
Everyone there is so kind and helpful. Also, they encourage you, which is awesome! Great team!
Friendly staff Nice pool
Clean. Updated.

I commend the staff at Market Street and Pearl Street. I go to each place depending on where I need to be and at what time. I mostly go to the Y to swim. I very much look forward to the new pool on Pearl street. Both places need upgrading so I am glad to see it happening. I went out to the Gig Harbor Y during the summer and it reeked of chlorine so I did not swim. I wonder what is the difference? Our Tacoma pools do not reek of chlorine. Thanks for keeping lost and found.
One complaint is the switch to barbells downtown and the loss of some of the old equipment. I am not into barbells and weights but it seems to be the big trend. I also hate the music in the downtown branch. It is just noise to me. At Pearl street it is a little better.
Also, when someone forgets to bring a towel, it does not seem to be too much of an ask to get a towel when needed. We used to get all our towels at the Y and I miss that a great deal.
I like the yoga and other special classes even though they usually conflict with my schedule so I don't go often.
I do appreciate the Y making showers available to people on the street. Frankly, I try to avoid those times they are there. Downtown is a mess. But it needs to be done.
I love the staff! Name removed
