FRIENDLY STAFF
After covid, I returned to pickleball, weights, and the track at the Y and dropped thirty pounds. Walking the sidewalks of Tacoma for seven or eight miles a day just doesn't burn calories the same way. Besides, most of my social life is there too.
Great staff, always friendly and helpful. I enjoy the group exercise classes. The facility is always clean and neat. A complete set of any type of equipment you could possibly think of.
A good sense of community. Convenient.
Community, staff, good facilities.
However, I would like to see more emphasis on allowing others to "work in' on weight machines. Also, the Y should strictly restrict basketball use to inside courts (no dribbling, tossing, passing, throwing) outside the court. This is a serious safety issue especially for elderly members and very young members.
#1 - I love that there are no children. I like children, just not at the gym.
#2 - The facilities are kept up well, but I wish the rule about wiping off the machines after use would be enforced.
#3 - Great classes. I love the yoga classes.
#4 - Nice staff. Though I can see that they don't follow through with things they say at times, like saying they will post a sign about wiping off the machines.
However, some things could use some work. The lockers need to be wiped out periodically (all shelves). The base of the machines needs to be cleaned, especially where the bottom of the weights are. It's time to move on from this puzzle, they need to be not as hard so people feel a sense of accomplishment, like the first few (no fault here), it's a great idea.
THANKS!!!
Friendly and helpful staff at the Tacoma Center YMCA plus that equipment is always clean and in working order makes for a great daily or weekly experience at the Y.
After being away for 16 months, I rejoined the Downtown Y in July. What a treat. The place looks great, the equipment is in great shape and the staff and music all good. You don't know what you've got til it's gone! So happy to be back to a great Y.

I like the size of the downtown center and that by design it is “adults only”. I also like the class offerings designed for those of us who work downtown.
Clean, kind staff, state of the art equipment.

Great place to get robbed
The community of people who are members and the staff. All good people. Staff works tirelessly to make it all work.
A very friendly staff greeting on arrival. Aside from that Nathan ,Kate and Elizabeth are outstanding at leading water exercising classes.
No children, the pool and Yoga with Diane.
The Kickstart appointment was just what I needed to get me oriented. I’m happy with my initial sessions working out on the machines. I’m impressed with the range of offerings that I have yet to try but hope to soon.
Nice staff, complete and clean facility.
We believe the swimming pool is the best in Tacoma and appreciate that it is an adults only pool.
The new paint job really freshened and brightened it up. The life guards are friendly.
My 3X a week regimen includes only a 30 minute work-out on the Pre-Cor machines. The room is always well-maintained. Your youthful staff comes across as both professional and congenial.
My sole gripe rests with other users of the Pre-Cor machines who consider it their god given right to play with their cellphones when others are waiting to use the machine they are perched on. I realize banning cellphone use altogether isn't going to fly in the social media world we now inhabit, but I wish the Y had a posted policy requesting its members not engage their phones when occupying a machine.
I like the friendly staff and the facility. It is important to have someone say hello and greet you on the way in and acknowledgement when you leave. As happens at center Y!
My kids love swimming lessons!
The staff is very friendly and personable. I prefer the lighting in the Tacoma YMCA over all other YMCA’s. I love how the workout areas are set up.
No children and the Active Older Adult classes Peter teaches
I use the weight room, it’s complete, clean, rarely crowded
Overall the Y is a friendly place
I love the Y.
The Y is a welcoming place to gather, exercise, meet up with friends for classes. All ages are treated respectfully. The staff has the best customer support skills and are a key part of the Y success.
A side note: I was just in Denver, and did my swim workout there. Our lifeguards here in Tacoma are paying attention 100% of the time. Denver is a bit more casual with one guard having head buried in phone. This is just one way in which PCYMCA is SUPERB!
The classes and the responsiveness to feedback.
