Excellent management
I joined the Y in January, 2024 because I needed to increase my level of activity and lose weight. As a former breast cancer patient, I was able to join via the Laurie's Hope program. 1) My first contact regarding my membership was with Sue Montminy. She was wonderful! She did an outstanding job explaining all the aspects of Laurie's Hope and the associated membership. She was professional, thorough, kind and patient. Her emails are full of information and opportunities. I have passed this information on to my physician's assistant, my sister-in-law and two close friends. Three of them became members via Laurie's Hope! 2) My favorite form of exercise is swimming, so I "jumped right in" and began attending the aquatic classed Mon.-Thu. in the lap pool. There's a huge difference among the three instructors I have: Ann, SandyJo and Michelle. It took a while to get used to being in a class where half of the attendees chat with each other during the instruction. I found it both frustrating (I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying) and annoying! Especially when the attendees are engaging the instructor in conversation during the class. Instruction becomes disjointed -- stop & go. It took a while, but I got used to it. I just do my own thing when the instructor is distracted by the talkers. 3) SANDY JO - she is the BOMB!! Her level of energy, charisma and the loud music are PERFECT for pool Zumba. Her class is my favorite (even though she expects us to sing along and I still haven't learned the words to all the tunes). Her class should be video-taped for online viewing. I would love to use it over the summer when I'm swimming at camp!! 4) Life guards do a nice job. Sawyer is a riot. He sings for us.
5) I called to schedule a session with a trainer to learn how to use the weight machines in the fitness room. I called back to reschedule it twice. The phone calls were long and inefficient. How difficult can it be to put a name & date on a calendar. The two different guys I spoke with seemed very disorganized - not sure what to do? When I did show up for the session, I was told it wasn't on the schedule. The person didn't offer any explanation... but since he wasn't busy, I asked "could I possibly do it now?" After some hesitation, he agreed "oh, sure". I got the impression no one really wants to do the intro sessions. I ended up doing it with (Mike?). He was personable at the time, but now doesn't seem to recognize me at all which is strange. 6) I know this isn't something that can easily be controlled but I get SO turned off by people talking on the phone when using the equipment (specifically treadmill) and when guys grunt and groan when using weights. SERIOUSLY??? 7) Does the pool get cleaned regularly? There's quite a bit of debris around the inner rim - gum, band-aids, hair elastics, etc. - it's really gross. 8) Same goes for the women's showers... the gobs of hair on the floor... ugh. Why isn't it picked up? The bathroom stalls are clean and well-stocked. But the shower area needs attention. Several times I've noticed black bugs flying around :(
9) The online/virtual classes are a huge benefit. When I don't want to leave the house, I can always "tune in" and do something from home.
