The Farmington Y is totally welcoming to all. I love the programs offered for seniors and have become friendly with many of the participants of these classes. The physical improvements in the building have been tastefully done.

I love the fitness classes in the evening. The classes I enjoy: Izzy teaches strength training and Betsy teaches cycling. These are fun classes but also allow you to work out at your own pace and push yourself as much as you need.

Family feeling. Community. FFYS swim team. The women that teach the water aerobics and aqua aerobics are amazing.

I go to the Easy does it pool therapy class. the teacher is Great. I come with a friend to the class she was already going to it. it's a nice class I am really glad I joined.

I went to the South Oakland Family YMCA facility on January 26th to check it out since the Birmingham Family YMCA will be closing permanently on April 30th, 2026.
I used to come to the South Oakland Family YMCA over 40 years ago. (I was at the facility on the day in 1986 that the previous Director of the South Oakland Family YMCA James Wiseman passed during a community function.)
The building is vastly improved from back then and the front desk personnel were excellent in making me feel welcome and took me on a tour of the entire facility.
