The Salem Y truly feels like a community. I always see people I know when I go to work out, and it's nice to see the same folx in the same classes week to week. Even when I am just on the fitness floor, the staff always say hello and goodbye, and I often bump into people I know from the Salem community. The front desk staff know me by face and will greet you and say goodbye, and the women in Kids' Club know my children, and I feel safe leaving them there, knowing they will be well-cared for - they never want to go home.
Honestly, the parking situation isn't great and sometimes I am late for a class or have to drive around for awhile to find a spot, but that's just life in downtown Salem. The building itself is definitely tired, but that's kind of part of the appeal to me. While the building is old and sort of pieced together, and sometimes there are leaks in the ceiling on the fitness floor when it rains too hard, the building is clean. The custodial staff is constantly working, and community members wipe down all of their equipment. Bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers are always clean, and I use the steam room and sauna regularly also.
I just love the Salem Y! I feel like it is a great community space and North Shore YMCA is general is a great deal for the types of events and services they offer.

The Salem Y has so many great classes - not only for me, but also classes I can do with my mother! Everyone is incredibly nice and everything is always spotless and in great condition. Love it!

My daughter comes home from her after school program very excited about the help she has from her teachers with all her new drawing techniques.
My son loves to go to the YMCA. If I have a day off and come early he gets sad and asks if I can come back later. He always comes home messy but that’s how I know he had fun!
The YMCA offers a variety of classes with wonderful instructors. The staff are very helpful and committed to efficiency, kindness and keeping the Y clean.

Everyone is friendly and accommodating, and my kids are so much more capable and confident in the water.
The yoga program is excellent, and the sauna and steam rooms work well.
