Since Kayla has taken over as director, I have noticed that the swim instructors are handling their classes much, much better. My grandchildren are 7 and 8 so I can only focus on their classes.
Most obvious to me is the way in which the swim teachers now handle the lesson. The students are given a task, then they call the children ONE BY ONE to take their turn. This insures that 1) the child knows the teacher is watching them alone and 2) the children are not on top of each other. This was the case prior, when the kids would all start together. It was chaos and impossible for a teacher to see each child individually. Also I notice the teacher is IN the water with the children. With the younger children this is a good thing.
The teaching and progression of the strokes is the second improvement. The stroke is broken down and taught in increments. So that the child begins to feel their way into the stroke. I watched Ellie swim lap after lap, each time adding a small change that eventually will become a full stroke. I liked that!
Also the testing seemed to be more strategic, and the kids rearranged into more compatible skill groups.
All in all a much improved program.

I love going to the ymca! My kids love the programs, and I use the fitness floor 3x a week. The thing I would change is getting a 3rd. Squat rack. A 3rd flat bench would be nice, but the squat rack is more important. When I go on Sundays they are not full. But I go between 4-6 on tuesday and Thursday and sometimes I don't get to use them, they are booked. Also, please don't get a Smith machine. They are not the same. Thank you for the consideration.

Has a lot to offer. However, the yoga room has now been put under restrictions because of the Pilates Equipment. We yogis get that the equipment is expensive, and keeping the room lock for saftey reasons are in place. Yoga is very important in many lives it helps physically and mentally. Putting restrictions on using this room has impacted us Yogi's we where able to get in the mind and body room at times to do our own meditation, stretches and to get in to the room early to prepare for a class. There is a great corner in the Y by the weights that they can put up walls and close off for a pilates room if the measurements work for the 6 machines and what ever space needs to accomdate. Please think about this and seperate the use of the Mind and Body room. It would also be nice to put more yen in that room as well

Fabulous staff, great facility, very clean & well maintained!

The Y offers so much compared to most other private health clubs, including child care, many and various group classes, and a connection to the community.

It's been a great experience. The gym equipment is very nice, and there is plenty of room to work out!

Such a beautiful open and airy place. It has never felt crowded, there is a nice atmosphere. I have already recommended the YMCA to many of my friends!

It is a great facility and the staff are friendly and helpful.

I love this place! It's clean. It's open early and late. They have an awesome pool! the fitness area is huge and not intimidating. the staff is beyond kind. We can practice basketball. It's nearby where we live. There is ample parking. The building is full of natural light. The dressing rooms are clean and offer privacy to those who want it. The cost is very fair. I honestly can't think of a single complaint about our local Y.

Becasue it is well equipped, well maintained, clean, affordable, typically not too busy and the staff is very attentive.

Great new location and facility to serve the Cape Ann area. Great staff and programs for all ages. As a senior I find it wonderful to see young people, from toddlers on up, using the Y! Keep up the good work.

My son is at the after school program at East Gloucester School. Jack and Connor are fantastic. As Shane puts it, "they play with us and pay attention to us. Also, they don't yell at us." It's obvious that they care about the kids and the quality of their experience in their care. They do a wonderful job connecting with parents at pick up as well. Shane and the other kiddos are lucky to be able to spend time with them!

I love that the values that they promote in their programs- respect, honesty, and kindness- really hand an influence on my kids. They look up to the people who are involved in the after school program.
