Because it is open to all, has wonderful services and classes, day care and child-oriented services.
My husband works a a lifeguard and swim instructor at a local Y. He loves his job because the Y has been a place for him to learn further skills in both areas and his work mates are good people.
Nice and big. I don't feel crowded even when there are a lot of member there. The constant improvements is in unbelievable.
Excellent coaching and a great team environment! My 8 year old is all in!
Multiple courts available for Pickleball
Great equipment and Pool! Friendly staff, very clean, close to home.
I really enjoy all the program’s available for myself and my family. We have taken advantage of exercise classes, childcare and Friday kids nights. We were also very thankful for the Y programming during the school strike.
One note - I’ve noticed a lot of phone usage in the locker room and especially in the women’s sauna. I would love for the Y to try to curb that. It feels really inappropriate in what should be a private space.
Great staff in the work out room and nice equipment. Courteous greeters at the front desk.
Kathy is great! My daughter loves swim class. The pool updates and new family locker room are very nice. Good to see continued investment in the pool.
Great teachers, fun classes, welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
The Plaistow YMCA is community based. I am an employee of 23 years and prior to that a long standing member.
I have met many people from all walks of life and developed several friendships.
I can't imagine being anywhere else.
Safe place for my son to play with friends.
Gymnastics room is EVERYTHING my childself dreamed of! I am so thrilled to be able to have a space of that caliber to bring my son to.
it;s good
Excellent natatorium and gym. Men’s showers are a bit “cramped”.
The clean well lit spaces, ample and diverse group fitness classes and parking!
Awesome Helpful staff
I think the YMCA has many benefits. I would recommend that members be able to register their car and have an area of reserved parking for members only. There have been an increasing number of days where members have had extreme difficulty finding parking. It is usually during swim meets, other spectator sports, Halloween trunk and treat, etc where non-members often take up almost all of the parking.
Because there is so many choices

Excellent facility and friendly staff
Welcoming, well run community institution.
Joan at the front desk was very helpful, friendly and welcoming in my initial inquiry over the phone and in person later that day when I came to try out the facilities. She answered all my questions and gave me additional information that was very helpful. Further, though I fully expected to pay for a day pass in order to try out the facilities, she gave me an unsolicited complimentary, one-time “trial pass”. I thought that policy was very classy. Of course the facilities were top notch, the men’s locker room was pleasant and very clean. So on my way out, I took out a membership (deciding over another Y facility here in the area). Can’t stress enough the importance of a great initial contact in these decisions, and Joan’s friendly and professional demeanor, along with the other factors mentioned, made it an easy decision to join.
Absolutely love the Greater Beverly YMCA childcare program!! Every teacher we've had have been amazing! I'm going to be so sad at the end of June when my son leaves to start Camp Chipmunk and then off to kindergarten. I highly recommend.

While sometimes a bit too busy, the Y offers a good value. Many good instructors and decent equipment.
