This Y has everything you could want. It is close to my house, and I can walk to it. Everyone is very friendly too.

The Y is a very comfortable, warm welcoming environment. My husband and I just moved here almost two years ago to be closer to family. We knew no one here except family. And I am an avid swimmer. The Y has become my "go to" place for swimming, chatting with Laura, and just feeling a part of the community.
The only criticism I have is that your pool hours sometimes do not match what the pool schedule depicts. Not sure why that happens, but I have become accustomed to it.
Also, the new cleaning person is wonderful, but the lockers need an update. They are old and the dirt is so ground in to the outside and inside of those lockers, it would be difficult for anyone to clean them properly without a very deep, deep cleanse.

Some of the top reasons I love the Ellicott City Y include the loyal Instructors that have taught there for years including Janet (teaches a variety of dance classes) and Stacey (Personal Trainer & occasional Group Fitness Instructor), the plentiful parking in the front and back of building, filtered water stations, and private restrooms on the second floor. I especially like that the Y offers paper towels in the various restrooms in addition to the hand dryers which I find loud, obnoxious, and disruptive to my personal peace.
In contrast, I do have a few critiques for areas of improvement at the Ellicott City Y. That would include dimming the lights in the group fitness studios so the LED lights are not so bright and intense for people with light sensitivities like myself. If LED lights are used, pease be sure to use a cover to take the edge off the intense light since they are not headache inducing when just the long rod bulb is exposed.
A few months ago I took a Water Group Fitness Class and found the pool room temperature to be extremely uncomfortable and unbearably hot and humid. I am not sure if perhaps the AC system was not working properly those few days I took pool classes however it was so hot I decided not to return because I was fearful I might pass out in the water. The pool water temperature was fine but the air was extremely uncomfortable. I do not think it was a safe working environment for the Instructor leading the movement on the concrete ledge above the pool.
Lastly, please keep cleaning product fragrances at an unnoticeable minimum and never ever use fragrances to freshen the air as many people have allergy and hive health issues which can be induced by fragrant smells.
