Good staff and good programs
This is my home away from home. The warm pool is my heaven on earth. My arthritis, hip replacement, and severe back issues remind me daily of what life is with pain. The warm pool immediately cures that issue. It provides immediate relief beyond belief. The classes I attend give me a sense of accomplishment and freedom. It definitely beats my home life in my recliner or bed. I pray that the water heating system or bad thunder storms do not ruin my week.
The instructors, management, customer service, and maintenance keep this location a “TOP CHOICE” for me in the Howard County area. My only issues are parking lot is often full during peak times. Also the Men’s Locker Room needs repair or replacement. Many of the lockers are unusable. Hot water in the shower area is often limited. This makes for a quick clean
I have been a member for over 16 years and hope to continue another 16 or more. This place should be your “HOME” too

There is a good variety of programs for kids and families through out the month. The schedule works well for us during the school year. If not, there is always the option to go nearby at the Catonsville location.
The staff is, overall, very friendly and helpful. There is one woman, older with white hair and glasses, who could use better training on approaching and interacting with Y members.
Upon walking through the doors, my excited daughters ran straight to the Family Room during a craft session. I chased after them to catch up. It slipped my mind to scan my bar code. The woman walked up to me and scolded me for not scanning in. Her tone was annoyed and not friendly.
Later in the day, I assisted my 8 year old daughter in the woman's locker room. As I finished up blow drying her hair, the same woman saw us and scolded us for being in the women's locker room. Now, if she had used better language and a gentler tone to speak to me to let me know that the other locker room is available for younger girls, I would have been appreciative of the reminder. Instead, she was condescending and rude. My daughter felt like we had done something absolutely wrong, as if we were in trouble.
I have only seen this woman at Dancel a handful of times, so crossing paths with her does not interfere with my overall experience at the Y. I do not believe these are isolated incidents, but this is just her personality. I have no reason to believe she cherry picks certain people to be nice to -- this is just her demeanor. Later, I witnessed her speak to another family in a similar manner. If she is condescending and unpleasant to everyone, I would strongly recommend she has training on how to better assist, speak to, and approach members.
I hope this feedback helps you and your staff. I would hope for a great experience for everyone who benefits from the Y. This ultimately starts with your staff.
The Y has a variety to workout options, programs and equipment, the pools are great, the hours are good, and the staff and members are friendly. There is something for everyone. It is an overall good experience.

I like so much about the Y. All though I have not made it to the Y as much as I want, I am always aiming to really get there. Your programs for all ages are the best.
We just joined but so far we have loved it. It has been a great way to get out of the house with my 1 year old, especially because they offer things for her to do too! We have done a few of the little movers classes for her and she loves them, as well as just started her swimming lessons. We are really excited to keep visiting and see what more the Y has to offer for both of us.
