this ymca does a great job at not much. i was told i should come to a class on a Sunday and was promised child care would be available, that person never showed up and another employee had to be pulled to do it so i could attend the class (after i did the first 10 minutes of the class holding my baby and trying to tend to my other child). when i asked the person at the desk where the child care people were she assured me in a fairly condasending tone that "there is NEVER child watch on Sunday". i tried to explain to her that there was supposed to be a special reason for the day and she just kept repeating herself and didn't even try to assist me.
* first tip- all employees should be certified and up to date on training to step in and ready to step into the child watch area if they are needed.
*the paper towels for drying hands are set to a ridiculously short length so that i have to use 2 to 3 pieces to get my hands mostly dry.
CHILD WATCH and scheduling is poorly done. i have said before and will say again. a final person needs to go over and thru all schedules and lessons to make sure that there are no over laps and that child watch is avaliable. there have been several instances where child watch opens at the same time a class starts so there is no one there to check in the kids when they are dropped off, making the parent late for class or they must leave early, this makes some people uncomfortable and they dont want to walk in late or have to draw attention to leave early to pick them up.
Overall the attitude of the employees (not class instructors) is a very thats not my job kind of attitude, or the i dont have to do that if i dont feel like it. i see many lazy people more interested in their own conversations than greeting the patrons as they walk in or helping them scan the cards when their hands are full of children.
the staff could really use a full lesson in customer service and attention to detail. do everything you can to help your patrons with what they need.
