The ladies locker room is fantastic (especially compared to Kerr). Roomy, lots of controllable ceiling fans, warm water at the sinks (not at Kerr), super clean, lots of places to dry your hair, hand lotion available. Love the sauna and steam room in the locker room.
Free weight area is cool enough (not Kerr) and spacious with several equipment options if you want to work a particular body part.
Members seem friendly, trainers and class instructors are super friendly plus helpful. I like that the trainers are available for questions near the weight area.
In general, the whole facility is super clean, well maintained (not Kerr), and well stocked with weight training or fitness accessories throughout.

Facility amenities and hours are great.
However, please don't let people who don't use the exercise machines rearrange the gym floor. The current layout makes no sense.
Also, the few Lateral X/Lateral Elliptical machines excellent for joints, legs and any level of cardio are also gone. But a standing ski machine which requires exact form and maximum shoulder range of motion to have minimal benefits has been installed.
Friendly staff makes my baby girl feel GREAT about staying afterschool! They are so kind to her, especially Mariah and Makilah ( sorry if I’m not getting the names correctly but they are the sisters!
The Y is a perfect fit for the needs of my current life stage as a young mom. I appreciate the childcare available for my daughter while I work out.
I love the classes- My favorite class is at 7:15am so I can only go when my husband can stay home with our baby. My one “wish” would be earlier childcare hours though I realize that is not very realistic, so I in no way fault the Y for the hours they have for childcare. I have been very satisfied with the staff that care for her and helped me feel comfortable as a young mom dropping off a very young baby for the first time.
The instructors are so welcoming to people just learning to do structured workouts or coming back to it after awhile.
As I try to get used to my postpartum body and begin to invest in myself again, the Y has been a safe space for me to work out and learn to use the weight equipment without being intimidated or surrounded by super intense “gym bros”. I think at another gym with a different culture I’d be too intimated to venture onto the weights side of the wellness floor.
The price can be a stretch for a single income family- but I definitely find it worth it especially because membership fees to the Y help fund their efforts to invest directly into our community at large and make an impact in Raleigh.
I would definitely recommend the Y to young families, and there seems to be a huge community of regulars that all know eachother and that is encouraging to see and be welcomed into as I grab my coffee after working out.
The swimming pools, the puzzle table but it needs a better location and better lighting, like a Verilux lamp. I like the staff but I don't like that some staff practically yell our name at check in. I like social activities and learning new things. I like inclusion and participation but not competitive activities with little rewards. Not necessary.

Glad I did this because I had been using the seated leg press incorrectly for years!

Good trainers, nice and helpful staff, variety of machines, bikes, weights, etc.
The staff is very pleasant
Mark, the manager, who opens in morning is wonderful and personable. Also, the lifegaurds are always on time and, I commend, Janette, for being so wonderful and a hard worker in the pool. Love the friendship and happy faces of the members who come in at 5:00 AM.
Awesome Service and Clean facility
Great job keeping place clean. Only issue is with people on their phones and sitting on equipment holding up the others

The teachers are great. Members and staff are friendly. Love that you offer kickboxing multiple times a week. Only negative is the parking. My husband has actually left several times when he came to attend a class and could not find a parking place.

First time visiting AE Finley. I heard a lot about it and it was everything I heard and then some. Very clean and staff is so friendly. Steam room and sauna are awesome. Work out area is roomy and they have all the equipment you need. Double and triple of the most popular machine, so no waiting. It's 10 miles farther away from Kerr, but we'll worth the drive. Keep up the great work

Love the group exercise classes
I have enjoyed my classes such as chair yoga, chair strength, cardio strength and strength. I love the instructors. I also love the camaraderie amongst the participants!
The multitude of the services you offer is outstanding. In the past I belonged to a YMCA in
Charlotte that didn't have this amount of services at the time and I could only visit the Y that I had registered with, maybe they currently allow visiting other Y's, I was a member a number of years ago.
Staff friendly and helpful. Facility is very clean. Class instructors very knowledgeable.
