I love the openness of the gym itself and that there are plenty of areas to do different exercises necessary. The area to have warm up with foam rollers and medicine balls is a nice touch if you don't want to be by the weighted section and vise versa.
One thing that is disappointing about your gym and gyms in general is that there is only one mirrored area in the gym and it is halfway up your body. While working out, I like to check my form- especially if I am doing a plank- and not being able to see what that plank looks like(i.e. a hip too high, butt sticking up, etc.) is difficult. I'd love to be able to jump rope and look at myself in the mirror as well.
Other than that, I'm excited to use the basketball courts and more throughout my time with this membership.
The community coming together to make this the best experience possible for kids, it would be nice if all the coaches could agree on certain rules that applies to everyone to make it more even and fair for the kids. Like, giving gentle reminders to players to pass the ball or to take turns to allow EVERYONE to play. Seems like they might leave the rules to be enforced by the referees, but coaches & assistants as guides must provide reminders as well.
With that being said, I would like to give a shout out to Brett Eiseler. He was our coach last year and he is the perfect example of a coach who teaches not only good techniques, but respect and good team work to the kids. He did an amazing job at giving an opportunity to all of the kids, the kids learned to wait for their turn, to support each other, to be respectful of the other team, check if someone was around that did not have an opportunity to shoot the ball, etc. A great coach and human being!
Also, thank you so much to the YMCA staff that coordinate these programs. It is not easy to keep everyone in track and all of you do a great job at providing these wonderful opportunities to the kids to play and make friendships. Thank you for the reminders, the rules, & the hard work to make this the most enjoyable experience for all families and YMCA members.
It’s a lot of fun. The teachers are great!
Nice facility with nice and friendly people.
The options of equipment is outstanding!!!!
I love that people from different ages and abilities take advantage of the classes as well as all the amenities. Seems like it levels the playing field as far as welcoming anyone and everyone. The trainers are great, too!
There were many instructors for each level of youth so instruction could be best tailored to the needs of each student. My daughter loved practicing diving and front crawl with Brecken!
Grateful the different levels available to the kids to learn swimming.
The preschool and youth classes on Saturday morning seem very well organized and run very smoothly. It also feels like there are more lockers and changing rooms compared to the David Hunting Y, which I've used in the past for my kids' swim lessons.
I like that it welcomes all
So many ways to get in a good workout in a community setting.
close to the house and it has everything a family would want and more.
One of my daughters takes dance and the other takes private swim lessons. Both have been amazing experiences. Thank you!
Nice and clean, great pool and gym.
Clases and leagues are afordable and fun
Well organized. Well run. Great facility.
Terrific experience for our daughter!
Very comfortable to belong as a senior. The amount of mature members. A track, not just treadmills.
It appears very clean. Staff is courteous at all times. It’s a large faculty. I don’t feel crammed in like other health clubs.
Clean facility. Friendly staff.
Very friendly staff and up to date pool schedule
We enjoy the emphasis on learning and playing as a team with an overall focus in these areas. Location and time commitment are good as well.
The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Perhaps I’m bias because I am also an employee.
The MFB Y is also one of the cleanest and most well maintained that I’ve seen.
Accessible clean friendly staff
Clean and bright with everything I want to use. Masters Swimming!! 🏊🏼♀️
Friendly staff, welcoming environment.
General positive vibe as everyone's working to improve their health & well being.
I love the classes and the community of people that I have met.
Open concept, free flowing, lots of machines
Encouragement of healthy activity choices for very w I d e ranges of ages & capacities.
Outdoor pool!
Community experiences: mom meet ups, buy-in Saturday lunches (its hard with young kids to do work out and pool b/c you have to think about food), support groups
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by staff who are happy to see you! I’ve been a member for less than two months and am greeted by name. Staff who are cheerful every morning make me smile, happy and want to come back.
Another reason I enjoy Mary Free Bed YMCA is that people who come to workout are respectful of one another. In my limited “Y” time, I haven’t heard arguments nor loud disagreements but I have witnessed camaraderie and friendship.
Additionally, the personal trainers and wellness staff are very engaged with the overall wellbeing of the members. And, it’s a clean space thanks to a crew that works daily to keep it that way.
I have more to learn about the various programs offered but my positive experience here will keep me positive for a long time to come.
Thanks for asking!

It was a good length (4 brief sessions). My son made notable progress in his swimming abilities at that time, and the instructor (Ms. Brecken) was a good mix of kind and challenging to the kids.
