Member Testimonials
There’s always exercise equipment to use. The time I go, I can always find a bike or a treadmill. I love the water sports in the pool, especially the senior arthritic Swim class.
Everyone there is very friendly.
Ashley is very accommodating when medical leave is necessary.
Colleen has been a phenomenal instructor. She’s incredibly patient and makes sure the kids build the right fundamentals. We really appreciate how she focuses on technique and doesn’t rush them, ensuring they’re confident before moving forward. Thank you for her dedication

I love the SHYMCA! We have been members for many years. We don't go consistently so I know we need to change that. It is so well run and very affordable. Thank you for providing a space for all!
I love the group exercise classes and the Kids Korner! Diana and the rest of the team are fantastic. My son is well looked after and always has fun while I'm getting a great workout in.
My son's swim instructor is amazing! She is super organized and my son's confidence in being in the water has already increased since starting classes.
I wanted to know about the evening water exercise that I had seen on the schedule at the Somerset Hills YMCA. I contacted Stacey Irvine, and she responded to my email quickly, informing me that there was no formal class in the evening; there was a lane dedicated at specific times for people who wanted to exercise in the water. In response to my question, she kindly acknowledged that the normal pool exercise equipment would be available for my use. I went on Monday night and enjoyed having space in my own lane to work out my own way. I love exercising in the water, and can't always get to the daytime classes, as I work. Being able to go in the evening and work out is a wonderful advantage! Everyone was very helpful, and I enjoyed the experience! I will be going back!
The Somerset Y's program for Parkinson's members is superb.
I recently found out about the program and I enjoy it very much. It has a lot, exercise programs that allows me to work every muscle in my body. I have not done so much exercise in the past 6 years. I am moving now. That is what the Parkinson's doctors want their patients to do.
In addition, the social aspect is encouraging.
I am new to the program but it gets me out of the house.
Thank you, YMCA.

The summer camp is the best experience for my son. He’s loving. Thanks for you excellent work!!!
I appreciate flexibility associated with being a snowbird and re-activating my membership for the summer with minimal hassle. My wife really enjoys yoga classes.
I'm just trying out the master's swim program after 30+ years of swimming at the SHY pools. It's a very welcoming environment for sure!
Beautiful facility. Much nicer than Somerville but a further drive for me from Manville.

Three comments:
1) One of the best swimming pool, both the family pool and the lap swimming pool. Perfect for the summer.
2) For a gym of this size, I'm puzzled that there is no stretch room--I'm think of a big room with hardwood floors and mirror on the wall. I can see myself with a yoga mat and inflatable ball, when I'm not feeling it at the machines. Currently, the tiny stretch area is surrounded by workout machine and little privacy. For example, if I wanted to do a gluten stretch faced up, I'd think twice about doing it. Both for my own privacy, and not to offend anyone else. ;)
3) One idea is: instead of having a big workout room feeling like walked into a Costco warehouse, divide it into manageable sections with a focus.
These are just my 2 cents. Either way, this location is getting my praise.
Class starts on time, ends on time, and is as advertised. No minor achievement these days.
Classes are given options as to "difficulty" and are allowed to modify a particular aspect of the class to fit their own needs.
I am an extremely tolerant person. However, why is the "Y" helping, forcing us all to celebrate Juneteenth & Pride Month? It's a gym and gathering place. No need to inject racist & sex stuff into the building. I have 2 neighbors who are gay. They do not parade around in g-strings & feathered boas. Just absolutely normal looking guys who happen to be gay. They don't flaunt their sexuality. Have you ever seen any Pride parades. Disgusting!!! Pride Month to them is an embarrassment. Stop with the politicization in the YMCA. I am not gay----am I allowed in the "Y" this month? Are you going to start transgender classes for 5-6-7 year olds?
Love EGYM
Plenty of bikes and machines

beautiful facility
