The Y is an absolutely outstanding place, the extreme friendliness, the encouragement, the expertise of the trainers. It's helped me so much in recovering from my stroke. I can't say enough good things about the Y.
i like all the equipment because it is up to date and keep in good shape plus the working staff
are very friendly.
Everything.
I like the spinning
I use the pools almost every day and I love the time spent in the water. The pools are clean and I know that the building is old but the people who work there are doing all they can to keep them clean and safe. I also love the people that I see and talk to every day! I’m alone a lot at home so coming to the Y in the morning really makes my life better Thank you !! Ps. I’m sure that my RA will have me in a wheelchair eventually but the time I spend at the Y has delayed the inevitable and for that I am truly grateful !

The Aquatics program at the Central YMCA is located in an architectural heritage site in downtown Youngstown, Ohio and is top notch for beginner and professional swimmers, young and old alike. The Aquatics program recently introduced a Masters Swim Team to include coaching and meets. I hope to join it next year. Through the swim program I have been able to get back to optimum health and well being at 75 and after a devastating accident that required a partial hip replacement and loss of income. Through the Y staff compassion and encouragement and a senior fitness exception I developed a daily swim habit and became a strong swimmer. Swimming became a way to my spiritual development and fullfillment. And it is not over yet!
Word is out! I've met a variety of swim coaches and triathletes in the locker room who travel here to swim in the newly refurbished deep pool from Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio and from private swim clubs in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Many of the adults who swim here have swim team histories. I've met sisters who swim, Mother, daughter pairs and members of the Catholic, Protestant, Baptist and lay clergy who swim and occasionally sing Gospel at the front desk if you ask them politely to do it and give grounding advice. I learned how to eavesdrop as entre to contact with a Higher Power.
The Center also boasts a shallow pool where children and their parents can work together with highly qualified lifeguards with elementary school teaching backgrounds and firm boundaries in learn to swim classes. These include children with special needs.
Early morning swim fitness classes for adults have become the new latte among public service professionals.
