The open swim in the leisure pool has hours of 1Phone number removed from Monday thru Friday for the summer.
There is aqua fit classes in the evening which have continued on in the summer, especially happy to experience deep water aqua fit on Thursday nights.
There continues to be 2 aqua fit classes offered every morning Monday thru Friday.
The personalized YTHRIVE plan created with the assistance of Tania on Monday, July 17th at 515pm. Yes, its beginners - however, if I can learn to like this activity as much as I enjoy swimming/aqua fit that will be a HUGE success.
Why Group Power is awesome. July 21, 2023
I like the fact that it is a cardio and weight combined workout without the boot camp attitude.
The instructors (Tanya and Candise) give very clear instructions and suggest variations in the routine to accommodate those of us who cannot do all the regular physical movements. They encourage us to keep the weight low at first and focus on the physical movement which results in better posture and fewer injuries. Once I learn the proper movement in a routine, I then gradually increase the weight to give the muscle group more of a workout. Changing the routine every 3 months keeps it interesting and challenges different muscle groups.
I also like the fact that group power routines have been created by MOSSA and have stood the test of time. They are safe, effective, and enjoyable.
As older adults we face sarcopenia (muscle loss) that can lead to a decline in our functional capacity. For us it is of increasing importance to do strength training such as found in group power. Such physical activity has been proven to slow the inevitable senescence. The absence of physical activity lets aging run amok.
Our biggest reason for our Y memberships is taking the strength class.
Our problem is for people still working, there are not enough classes to support our need.
A) The minimum/week we need are 3 classes.
B) The classes need to be spaced out (ie: not consecutive days) for recovery (muscle tears) and muscle building.
C) They need to be available either before or after work 6-7:30 am or 4-6:30 pm Mon-Fri (as well as Sun/Sat classes).
While we can go ourselves and do 1 class/week on our own, the difficulty is getting the use of the workout room. If Group Power is cancelled the time/room has been taken over by other classes, thus negating availability. The weights are too cumbersome to move, I use 6 XL plates on 1 bar for the legs portion per session.
