Good place for seniors who have Silver Sneakers. Not too busy, machines usually available. Several nice recent upgrades to an old bldg.

We cannot say we are ever impressed with the administrative staff, but that is mainly because they have changed so much over the years. The current crew does not seem to participate in their own programming, but then we aren't there all day. The best director was Lynn Wilcox, who took classes with the members and made it a point to greet members and know everyone.
The biggest issue at South Oakland is lack of consistent maintenance. The women's locker room needs to be cleaner. And the showers need to be fixed so that they all work. We have few that are fully functioning.
We stay as members because we live nearby, but the standards have declined in recent years, and if you want to retain members, you need to maintain the facility ( rather than redecorate the front lobby and the staff offices). The members have made note of the effort to make cosmetic renovation in the absence of repairing things the members need, like clean floors and functional showers. Recently there was a stench of sewage in the women's locker room which lasted over a week. Things like that will drive away members.
So many different equipment
Clean facility, good variety of equipment, clean, large locker room. It would be great if you added electric vehicle charging in the parking lot.
I am having a great experience working out and swimming and it so close to home. Staff are always friends and helpful.
