I'm so chuffed (proud, so happy) that my wellcare insurance has fitness benefits Silver & Fit. My favorite ways to exercise is lap swimming, and the elliptical. The YMCA is not like other gyms, fitness centers and that's good. The YMCA is a calming and safe place to exercise. And I appreciate the building in Royal Oak is old fashioned.
I feel comfortable at the Y. I don't feel as anxious, and I'm not stressing about anything. And when I feel better, less anxious than it's easier to exercise and benefit from exercising.
I'm trying to describe how other gym, fitness centers, for example LA Fitness which is a newer type place is awful. It's intimidating how humongous the building is, and everything about it, it's lacking that comfortable home feel, safe, cosy, and positive energy feeling that I get when I'm at the Royal Oak YMCA. At the newer fitness center LA Fitness, this man who works there was arrogant, and condescending, and ridiculous. He caused both me and my husband to feel like we were idiots and didn't know better. He was condescending, belittling and insulting. It made it uncomfortable for us and I don't feel comfortable exercising in a place; crummy LA Fitness, where people judge and belittle us. It's also overcrowded, intimidating how huge the place is and I don't care that it's new, it's not worth the fluff someone paid for that asinine and excessively expense place. Not the YMCA. That's not what I meant.
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Facility seems very complete with a variety of activities and equipment in good condition. Enough space and equipment to meet needs.

I love all the classes they have for seniors. Lots of exercise equipment and there seems to be diverse activities for the whole family. The staff is very friendly and make everyone feel welcome.
