I first joined the Hillcrest YMCA at the age of 18 and am now 52 and have been a member for most of my life! I went to college locally and alternated between my college gym and the YMCA while doing so. I've had several operations over the years and even moved out of state for a few, during which I had to suspend or cancel my membership until I was either physically able or geographically back in town. I've had very many challenges both physically, emotionally and financially over the years, but I've always found my way back to where I first started. The Hillcrest YMCA has been one constant that I've been able to count on to no matter what, I was able to find comfort and familiarity with and start rebuilding once again both my body and mind. Debbie has been there as long as I have and no matter what I was coming back from, once I'm walked through those doors, it was like I never left.
Now at 52, once again just last week, after 1 1/2 year break due to two major operations and maybe the most challenging come-back I've attempted to date, when I walked in for my first work-out, Debbie was behind the counter, just like she always has been for the last 33 years to say "Hi Joe, how ya been?" like I never even left.
I've trained at almost every gym in the greater Cleveland area and have always, when healthy enough to train, have kept my Hillcrest YMCA membership knowing that, when I do work-out there, I almost always see a friendly and (most of the time familiar) face!
I will always consider the Hilcrest YMCA my home (gym)!
I primarily use the workout equipment on the first floor. The best thing about the Y is the staff. Friendly and helpful and always with a smile!
