Good group exercise selection
It has difrent working sections "floors"
I generally go for the group classes but this YMCA has a little bit of everything. The different floor levels along with the cleanliness of it all is very nice. Only setback it the somewhat transparent glass walls in certain rooms when that isn’t in everyone’s comfort zone.
I am a first time gym goer and have spent years having anxiety about joining a gym and working out in front of people. I started working out in the Womens Center first and then migrated into the main gym. I feel so comfortable and welcomed at the Y and no longer have anxiety working out in front of people. The staff is incredible too and always lifts me up when I come in for a workout. I tell everyone I know to join. The space is great, the classes and equipment are endless. There is something for everyone and at any age and fitness level. So happy I found this place.
I use the weight machines and the free weights 2-3 times per week. Enjoyable experience.
My only request is to fix some of the older weight machines near the window - 2 machines have been out of order for 2 months or so. Also, when removing older machines, please replace or offer a machine with similar functionality. About 2 years a weight machine for your shoulders and top-line was removed without a replacement. You lifted up both shoulders in a sitting position.
I still miss that machine. Other than that, the Y is very well run with friendly staff.
Great instructors and trainers. Good variety of workout equipment.
I like the yamca and I try to come as least 2or3 times week and the only thing that you don't have no set of towels but that ok I bring my own. Are you going have alot activity coming up and events and I have join before
Parking free with membership while in a group exercise class. Pool/Spa, Lockerroom, track, deli. Plenty of verity in group classes, diversity in programs for all ages, welcoming and helpful staff.
the staff can be more accommodating when working out with the equipment.
I really enjoy the perfect of the woman wellness center. I also love the indoor pool and hot tub. The lockers and cafe are the icing on the cake.
Love the 4th floor and natural light!
Convenience, environment, and customer service
I swim laps 3 times a week for about 3.5 hours each week. I love it. But im a serious swimmer. While I love kids...I try to go swimming when they are not around. So I moved my swim time for 5am. Recently there have been private child swim lessons starting at 6am. That takes an entire lane out of commission. I full up stopped swimming during daylight hours during the summer bc of kids in the lap lanes. I remember being a kid taking swimming lessons in New Orleans at the YMCA there and loved it...but really there should be an adult time and a kid time.
I have such happy memories swimming at the YMCA in NOLA that I want all the kids in Houston to have the same...but as an adult that does speed drills, I also kinda really want a child free time too.
Swimming.
Women exercise room
I love it all!
I wish they would inforce people take showers before entering the pool.
Swim lessons and child watch
The sheer variety and number of programs/activities.
Great programs for seniors. Very friendly staff.
I don’t really use the programs/activities
I love the group exercise classes and instructors!
I only use the gym and pool so can’t speak to the classes. It’s great value for money with such a well equipped gym and the pool isn’t too busy when I use it.
I like the diversity of your programs, but you should post signs in the locker rooms so people leave the rooms cleaner than they currently do.
I like the variety that is offered in addition to some of the teachers.
The variety of activities proposed.
Classes, running track, child watch
I like the clean environment, maximal functionality, and the many amenities.
I had such a great experience at the Tellespen location. I'm a member at the Katy location and often feel unwanted because the staff watch me everywhere I exercise for some reason. At Tellespen, I feel like a member and plan to visit regularly. I complained at the Katy location about the experience I have but nothing changed. That location is closer to me. Tellespen is a 45-minute drive that I planned to take often.
We really use the warm water rec pool - my husband is disabled and working in that pool is so very helpful. And his trainer - Yvonne - is THE BEST. However, more lifeguards do need to be hired to ensure the pool is regularly available - lately the pool has been closed without much notice due to lack of lifeguards.
Also really like training on the floor with Ed. And the Zumba classes.
Please consider adding pickle ball - very popular right now and us retired folks would really benefit from such an addition.

Alot of things to do with positive people and good energy. The staff is friendly and willing to help. Great efforts are put back into the community with events including promoting small businesses and youth programs. I LOVE THIS PLACE and I will continue to look forward to enjoying my experiences at the YMCA DOWNTOWN.
