George is a great Level 1 / 2 instructor. He has lots of compliments and patience. I like the equipment variety. I do wish there was a separate pool for children in diapers. The pool had to be closed on Saturday Feb 15 at the beginning of our 11:35 swim lesson because of baby something! I know the Y tries to accommodate all, but families with babies in diapers need their own pool. I pay a monthly membership and should not be inconvenienced by baby stuff in the pool.
We love the Y! Our son has responded so well to Coach George and looks forwards to his weekly lessons!

We have been very happy with this class. My daughter loves the instructor and she is great with the kids.

Convenient and many options
I like the YMCA at Abingdon. I use the facility 6 or more times a week. The facility is clean and well maintained. I like the new hours, the new water fountains and the big screen in the lobby.
Areas for improvement:
• The big screen could be more informational, show what is coming up, dates and times of events i.e. turkey trot or sweet heart dance, swim meet, etc. and not what has already happened, (if you like what you see wait till next year).
• Have someone police the entrance curb to prevent cars from stopping and waiting. Some people must think it is short term parking. It causes safety issues for cars backing out of the first row parking spots. (I haven’t seen staff there lately)
• The men’s bathroom is typically a mess. The soap dispensers at the sinks are often empty, the paper towel dispenser across from the urinal is broken, however if you grab the handle and lift it up and down it will push out a paper towel. Tile is missing on the floor in the shower area. People coming in from the pool do not dry off before going to their lockers, this creates large puddles on the floor that are slip hazards and possibly infection concerns. No one wants to step or stand in someone’s else’s puddle. (Water that runs off someone’s body that starts above the waist typically runs through the crotch or crack area on the way to the floor, no one wants to stand or step in it.) Require swimmers to dry off before leaving the pool area.
Keep up the good work:
• The parking lot is cleaner. I have not seen trash or dippers on the ground.
• Lights in the parking lot are all working.
• The door handles on the front doors haven’t come off.
• Staff at the front desk are welcoming and friendly, especially in the morning.
• Staff working the floor are more helpful and attentive.
• Class instructors are friendly and welcoming to new members.
