I use primarily swimming and the reservation system which does work. I also like the recent renovations to the locker rooms making them very user friendly.

Lap pool
Just 5-6 weeks ago I recommended to a neighbor to check out the Salem YMCA, get a (free) tour of the facility and also take a (free) class or two. He did that and joined the the Salem Y! I now see him every time I go (1-3 times per week). He has already lost weight adn he is looking like he is in better shape. He is also smiling a lot more! Obviously, he is really liking this new experience.
My only advice to him was to take it easy at first - if he thinks he can lift 100 pounds, please start with only 30 lbs and do more reps. I stressed that a lot of older but new members overdo their exercise and get really sore, then they just quit coming to the Y. But my neighbor took my advice and used it. Now he has gradually increased his weights and his endurance, He is taking spin and yoga and swimming in addition to using the machine & weights room. He loves the Salem Y.
Water aerobics is fun and challenging
