Our daughter is thriving thanks to Sylvan in Mt. Pleasant. Ms. Patti and her team are phenomenal! All the teachers are fantastic and my daughter gets excited to come to Sylvan twice a week for tutoring.
We love Sylvan of Charleston! They are so personable and have been amazing in helping our son prepare for the SAT.
Sylvan has been pivotal to my son feeling better about his ability to perform well in Math and Reading. In a period of 3 months, Sylvan was able to identify his skill gaps, practice, and master those skills so that when he was retested, he achieved being "at-level". We decided to continue the tutoring through the end of the school year and into the summer, so that his skills would remain fresh. What is most encouraging is our son wanted to continue the tutoring during the summer. I was stunned, but I was not going to refuse. The small group dynamic at each tutoring sessions allow for independent work but also significant oversight, redirection, and assistance from the tutor, so that children cannot become distracted within the session, I definitely believe my son gets something valuable out of each session he attends at Sylvan. The staff is incredibly flexible with scheduling.
Ive been very pleased with how Sylvan has approached tutoring. It is too early to tell whether this investment has any tangible outcomes in test scores or grades, but I can see progress and deeper understanding.
Everyone is great and shows great care to our child. His grades have improved already after 1.5 Months. We are happy with their progress and with Sylvan.
The Mount Pleasant/Charleston Sylvan leadership team helped our son by having a comprehensive process through the standardized testing preparation while also being very accommodating. They found the perfect tutor that fit our son's personality as well as his needs. It has been a very positive experience all the way around!
Approach to SAT tutoring is easy, well thought out. Working with tutors twice a week on a regular schedule is a benefit. Looking forward to seeing the results of the second practic SAT and results of actual test
I was hoping for more face-to-face individualized tutoring that made learning to read fun for my son, Sam. He was often put on a tablet to complete lessons that he did not understand. I asked if his teacher explained the lesson in advance and he said no. He said the children each were given the tablet with headphones and told to complete it, and that they all had different lessons. He said that because he didn’t understand the lessons, he got things wrong and whenever he got it wrong, there would be a big red ❌ that would flash on his screen and he felt embarrassed and sad. He would cry as he told me about his lessons in the evenings. This method of teaching was very discouraging for him.
He had a lot of anxiety about the tablet time there and failing on the tablet that he did not look forward to going. He did say he told his teacher that he did not like the tablet lessons. For the cost of the program, I would’ve hoped the teacher could recognize and address his concerns, and incorporate an individualized plan that would encourage his desire to learn.
He starts school Wednesday so we chose to postpone any lessons left in our packet for a future date. We want him in a good headspace this week and not anxious.
Are we able to use the lessons we’ve already paid for on another child? Just wondering what our options are if we choose not to bring Sam back?
My daughter was unhappy going, costs a fortune & honestly she did not get anything out of it. To top it off we decided not to continue another month & they said we need to give a 30 day notice. So I’m expected to pay another few hundred dollars & drag her there. Very disappointed in the whole process
My daughter’s reading skills have improved greatly since enrolling her in Sylvan
My child’s reading and comprehension has improved since starting the Sylvan program.
My son loves going to Sylvan. It has changed his whole perspective on math. He is more encouraged to learn math than ever.
Small groups, skilled instruction - convenient hours.
Cheers
First thing I noticed is the attitude. My daughter has been excited togo every time, even when that meant finishing up swimming togo. Her speech and confidence in reading has grown.
My son went up three reading levels in only 5 sessions. It truly works and is the best thing we ever did for our son.
Very professional and effective.
We have had a wonderful experience for both our 6 and 9 yr old. Both their grades are improving!
My daughter loves going to Sylvan! She feels she is learning and her self esteem and confidence are growing every day! She loves learning again!
Savannah loves going to her “super school”. We’ve told multiple friends about Sylvan.
The owners of the MT P Sylvan location were so nice to immediately work my child into their schedule for some tutoring. Very flexible with scheduling and good experience.
Our son really enjoys coming weekly to Sylvan! We will continue weekly through the school year.
Muller (our son) is a Junior at Wando HS and started his journey in the US School System at CCSD (Charleston County School District) in January of 2020 after completing most of his schooling in South Africa. Patti and Ray and their team have helped him get ready for college through an SAT prep program. Muller has shared with us that it had been very beneficial and we can not wait to see his results after his first assessment this weekend.
Patty is great! My son also likes the tutors!
My child has really enjoyed her experience at Sylvan. The teachers make learning fun. She is catching up and performing better in school. Her confidence continues to grow.
Mount Pleasant SC location great to work with, didn’t try to talk me into anything extra, just what my son needed some extra help with.
Honest, friendly and great with kids!
We used Sylvan for my son and he thrived with them. We are part of a military family and received orders for Spain. Once, in Spain he started to struggle and needed some extra help once more. I contacted Sylvan and started doing virtual tutoring online. I’ve seen improvements right away and it’s so cool that they could accommodate us while in Spain.
The Director, Patti, met with of my son’s teachers at school to learn from them what his areas of struggle(s) are. This allowed her to tailor and customize his sessions to what would really help him progress forward.
Love the personal touch!
