The people in there are amazing! the place is very clean and they have a lot of good options to train! 100% recommended
I have been a member for more than 40 years and it has been a big part of my life, and not just for the multiple exercise features. The staff is friendly and helpful and a bonus is meeting members to chat with.
And not the least is Free Coffee.
It’s a great community experience with helpful, cheerful staff.
I tell a lot of people about the BH YMCA. I LOVE the classes and the instructors (they meet you at your level). I also really LOVE the community/family feel of the BH YMCA. I've made friends at this Y.
The one area I wish we could improve is the length of time some of the attendees spend on the workout machines (often on their cell phones and not using the machine) in the main gym I've had good and bad experiences in asking people who are on their phones if I could hop on and use it. Some have apologized and been very receptive. Others have been bristly and have said they're still using it. It's tricky-- I'm not sure I have a solution (I know there are signs all over). I wondered if the machines could have timers to remind people their time is up.
It has a lot of variety in the classes, access to a large pool, pickleball. Love the beautiful new BH facility.
Good facility. Nice staff usually.
I like:
That the Berkeley Heights Y is a 10 minute walk from my house.
The early morning classes.
The variety of classes.
The fitness instructors.
The pools, the updated facilities, everything except the locker rooms They're not terrible, but could stand an update. The people are terrific, although I miss Terri.
Everything
Spin and yoga are doing well. However access to the pool for working people is still terrible post Covid - and the impression is that nobody cares, pool access virtually excludes people who have traditional working hours. So while I enjoy the Y my wife hates what has happened to the pool and to organized circuit training with the weight machines. Even after taking an orientation class to the new weight configuration she still prefers the old arrangement and the old machines
Excellent
great classes
Friendly staff. Clean facilities.
The comodery with staff, co-workers & the members of the YMCA
Large group of students and wonderful teachers
Wonderful
I like that the SAY ‘s cleaning crews are employees, not sub contractors, and they are part of the organization.
Everything is clean and well-maintained.
I don’t understand why the weight area on the 2nd floor has such terrible ventilation. No air circulates there.
Staff isn’t particularly friendly as a rule except for a few individuals. In contrast to the Montclair Y where everyone was very friendly. Maybe it’s just a Summit thing.
I grew up in Summit, so I like going there. I’ve been going there for at least 50 years or more. I love the fact that it’s been renovated and it’s clean.
The people who work and volunteer there are so nice and welcoming! The facility is well laid out and very clean. I haven't tried any classes yet but am planning to do so. There are a good variety of machines to get your heart rate up on as well as weight lifting options.
It's a nice culture at the SAY. Employees go above and beyond keeping the place safe, clean and organized and I'm always treated with respect and good will at the front desk.
Easy to navigate, usually not crowded, more seniors than kids, friendly front desk, Great parking!
I’ve had a fantastic experience at Summit YMCA! The staff are always pleasant and welcoming, making every visit enjoyable. The gym is consistently clean and well-maintained, which creates a great environment to work out in. My younger son also attends swimming lessons here, and he absolutely loves it! The instructors are patient and skilled, making it a fun and positive learning experience for him. Additionally, the sauna is a perfect way to relax after a workout – it’s always clean and provides a peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend Summit YMCA for anyone looking for a top-notch fitness experience!
I love it - very well organized, great classes and instructors, flexibility. Only problem I have had is when people show up to classes when there are no more spots available and the instructors allows them to participate and the room is over crowded!!
The staff, the members, the facilities, and community service. All awesome.
Nicely equipped facility with a friendly atmosphere and competent staff.
Polite customer service. Very clean facility. Has a lot to offer.
More Volleyball days !!!!!!!!
I’ve been a member on and off for decades, but since the opening of the new Berkeley Heights facility in 2020, my family and I have become active members. My kids frequently use both the Berkeley Heights and Summit locations. However, it wasn’t until this summer that I decided to take my fitness journey seriously—and I’m so glad I did!
I started by attending Lisa McQuilken’s 7 a.m. strength class and quickly became hooked. Now, I’m signing up for 4 to 5 classes a week, including Spin with Ginger, Barre with Narissa, and others. The 45-minute classes are the perfect length, and I always leave feeling like I’ve done something great for myself!
