Workout facilities and seeing friends
I love the YMCA.
Suggestions:
(1) STEAM ROOM SIGNAGE
Need bigger and more direct language signs at entrance to steam room about how putting ice bags on the thermostat is unreasonable and will destroy the unit and that such acts will necessitate expulsion from membership if proven. It is destruction of property and causes untold issues for staff regarding repairs and also delays for members before they have an operable steam room again. This has gone on for decades. I have written notes about this before. Signs have been small, too subtle in language, and ineffectual.
(2) PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM
Most importantly. It is outrageously careless for the Y in this day in age not to have a loud, thorough public address system that goes into every room in case of a public shooting or threat incident. I am a former lawyer. Any lawyer would love to represent the families of children who were killed in a shooting incident when the Y was proven not have a system to inform all people quickly of what was going on and what to do, contributing to loss of life.
Nearly all institutions, schools, etc., have such systems. Walkie-talkies don't cut the mustard. This is my fifth suggestion box note about this all-important issue over past 35 years.
Also, such a system would take a lot of emotional pressure off the poor employee who has to go into the men's health club and try to get people to dress and get out on time. E.g., the public library starts announcing in fifteen minute increments 30 minutes in advance when the library is going to close and says patrons must start preparing to leave. The Y does not.
Employees get some back talk when they announce the Y is closing. It would simply be public announcements stating that the Y will actually close and lock its doors at closing time, not that 10 pm is when you need to start thinking about heading to the locker room and starting your shower.

Good equipment, friendly, clean facility. I like the cardio machines with videos to watch (Matrix) and the wide variety of free weights. I am a middle-aged woman and it's better for me to increase in 2.5 pound increments (5 pounds is a lot!). Typically enjoy the music and TV shows that are playing in the background.
A month or two ago, as it was starting to get darker, I noticed that some of the parking lot streetlights were out. They were replaced almost as soon as I noticed it. Great proactive effort in keeping everyone safe!
