Member Testimonials
I like how big it is and I truly enjoy the pool and hottubs.
The new locker rooms are excellent. It's not so crowded and the people are helpful.
I like the diversity of members and the dedicated instructors. The parking and construction has been bothersome.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Foremost - the diversity of the members, the staff. The entire air of the place inspires me. I'm a white guy, age 59, and I love diversity & its challenge to call me to embrace all people in greater ways. The David D. Hunting IS one of the top places in our city where this happens, perhaps the top
The guys locker room is filled with people who I implicitly appreciate. I love the new locker room EXCEPT... It needs more benches. The steam room is lacking any way to make it hot given that the hose is now gone... It's a low grade 'barely' stream. I wish towels were available EVEN if it required a $1 fee each time. I wanted one for an underhoused guy a week ago. I would have paid $5 for a towel... I gave him mine, but that doesn't get him a clean one next time.
Group fitness classes are a blast. The people are friendly and make the classes fun.
Friendly helpful staff. I really appreciate the pool maintenance and attention to keeping temperatures (both water and room) at comfortable levels.
I AM OLDMEMBER I like all service everyone isfreindly and supportive i enjoy the service
It's a quiet, welcoming environment that's non judgemental.
Great Men's Locker Room! Nice layout of exercise equipment on third floor. 5 stairsteppers. Diversity of members
Free parking
I love Rodney at the front desk. I love the evening instructors. I love that more classes are being added.
The interior of the y is coming along nicely. The only negative thing I can think of right now is that sometimes the studio floors are slippery and dirty.
They made the parking situation easy with construction challenges. The diversity of members is enjoyable.
I thought about a lesser number as the track is not monitored- just that some youth do not respect the rules of sharing, and complicate the busyness by hanging out in lanes doing other than walking or running.
I like that improvements are constantly being made to the facilities and that the space is always clean. Other patrons seem respectful of one another and the gym is easy to access.
I am disappointed that free membership is only available to full-time GVSU students. I am a part-time masters student and will be paying the same tuition as a full-time student, if not more considering tuition costs rise each year. i live in Eastown and take classes at the downtown Grand Valley campus so I do not have access to fitness facilities in Allendale. I wish this benefit was available to all who pay tuition to GVSU.
Very clean. Tons of machines. Beautiful pool. Love the walking track
Always appreciate this facility! The staff are great and the equipment is top-notch. Parking in the Seward lot is convenient and easy. Transitions/changes during construction of the soccer stadium have made things a bit complicated, but it seems that the Y has anticipated as much as they can and are making every effort to make folks aware of things that are in flux. I will continue to use this as my secondary location, especially when I'm looking for a relaxing stay in the steam room, (when it's open)!

I started going to David D Hunting regularly in May 2025 and have gone 4-5 times a week ever since. I use the weight floor, the track, sauna, and I've attended step cardio, body pump, and body balance classes. Folks at the front desk are always kind and calm and willing to answer questions. The folks who walk around the weight areas are so helpful, any time I have asked any one of them how to use a piece of equipment, they have not hesitate to demo it for me or show me a machine that is similar to what I need if the Y doesn't have the exact machine. I always see staff sweeping, vacuuming and disinfecting the WHOLE machine, not just the high touch areas. There are always janitors around changing the trash and what not. I always see the certified athletic trainers with their clients and I also see them using the facility too which is always a good sign. Sometimes, while waiting for a group fitness class to start, I will see the childcare professionals walking the small kids to the bathroom single file and with that small glimpse, I can tell they're fabulous at what they do. Talking to the kids with care and structure, explaining to them that the processes they follow are for their safety (sitting along the railing, two kids in the bathroom at a time because that's how many stalls there are, etc.). I have so much respect for everyone working at the Y. Thank you for what you do!
It has so much under one roof
Staff is friendly. Made some friends there. Glad the men’s locker room is completed. The update looks great. It was looking the 20 yo it was. Really good communication during construction/renovation
Awesome men's locker room. Just put up 3 to 4 fans please

I like the pool.

Everything was open and really not too busy. Life guards were on duty. Locker rooms were clean.

Friendly, dedicated, overall great coach experiences! Our son learns so much and gets way more experience from ymca than our rec school teams.
