Friendly, age-appropriate and engaging environment. Coach Terry and all the staff at YMCA were very empowering, and my son enjoyed his first basketball league.
The activities and programs offered at the Shady Grove YMCA provide my grandson with the opportunity to exercise, develop confidence and mature in a safe and structured environment.
My 3 year old daughter really enjoyed the dance program. She was totally new to dance and nervous to start but the teachers did a great job and she quickly started looking forward to the classes and had gotten much more confident by the end of the program.
We love the swim team, soccer, and basketball. Having the YMCA offer these sports, especially during the seasons where our schools don’t offer them really helps with the engagement our kids interest and love for the sports so we can all stay happy and healthy!
The parent volunteers have been extra helpful. They have a true love for the game they are volunteering with, and really help the kids with their strengths and weakness so they can succeed and what they love to play. Most importantly HAVE FUN!
Basketball clinics
Very fun and friendly atmosphere!
I like it
Everything ran smoothly and the sports staff is great! They are very responsive to questions and feedback. I really appreciated having as much information as possible about the tournament schedule, including potential bracket times, beforehand. These things are important to parents who are juggling multiple kids in multiple sports.
One of the reasons my family belongs to the YMCA is to be able to use the basketball courts. We appreciate it when youth sports events are at local elementary schools in order to keep the gym open for regular members.
Inclusion
Cross Country is such a positive experience for the athletes ! The coaches are fantastic and I’ve loved watching my child grow in skill and self-confidence!
Basketball clinics
Love the enthusiasm and team work.
I’m local, their convenient, and very kind staff.
The are a variety of sports for young people to choose, along with various locations in the Richmond, VA area. MY location, Shady Grove, has been excellent at information and response. The program team does a great job of ensuring the games are organized, fair and balanced.
Team focused
Age appropriate activities but they need to be offered at multiple locations
Organized, great coaches, inexpensive, great locations!
Good couching. Fair and good team ship a clean environment. Good awards an celebration.
Family and religious feel of community.
Great coaches, fun environment for the kids!
Basket ball tournament
It's a great low key intro into the sports and was just perfect for the age my boys are at. The only piece I have any real feedback on is around alternate locations. We played soccer at the Shady Grove location and had our last game of the season was all the way out at Goochland Middle School, Driving 30+ minutes defeats the nature of a low key league like the Y offers. That was our only disappointment of the 2 seasons we played.

The refs do such a great job of teaching while calling the games. It’s well organized and the kids have fun
Good programs for children in a supportive atmosphere.
Great option for recreational and competitive participants alike.
We love the YMCA youth sports! My daughter has done swimming, soccer, basketball, and gymnastics. I like how the referees teach the kids as they play.
I like that they are inclusive of all children and that it focuses on a learning and fun atmosphere.
The coaches for my child's team were kind, organized, and encouraging. Sporting events were well organized and shared. Thank you for a great season!
