The kids love the variety of activities and the cadence of the day. The only thing I’d recommend for improvement is communication on the bus - the schedule says pick up at 5:45, but my kids said that they really got to their stop around 5:30, and so we ended up being one of the last to pick up. Also, possibly better communication and details on what to bring to camp each day. The list didn’t include bathing suits and towels, which we sent anyway.
Everything 🥰
The Camp Thunderbird offerings were just awesome, my camper loved everything he got to do at CT. As a parent, I really appreciate how well managed all the information is (the registration process, the document submission, preparation information to parents). All my interactions with camp staff were very high quality.
My son had a great time at camp this week. They did so many fun activities! He Made new friends and spent time playing outside! The only negative comment I have is that it cost way to much! They don’t even provide lunch for the kids. For the price they charge they should feed the kids more than just an afternoon snack.
Camp Thunderbird is routinely my 11 year olds favorite camp of the summer! Thank you for all you do!
Everything my kids love it. They love Gaga ball and the aqua zip the most.
we loved it and are planning to register again next year.
All the variety - my daughter really enjoyed having new things to look forward to. She also liked the camaraderie (camp cheers, songs, etc). I love the small camper:counselor ratio.
Variety
I like that the kids are mostly outdoors and active. There is a variety of both sports, crafts, games, and adventure. The bus transportation is especially helpful for me.
My daughter really loved the experience and we loved it for her. Additionally the price was great and transportation convenient.
I love the Y. I love everything it stands for and all the wonderful things the Y does for our community, children and inclusion. That being said it is very difficult for a child to understand why they cannot bring in a water gun from home. It’s not an easy conversation to have with a kid when everyone else is going out buying and bringing in water guns from home. While I understand the fun and excitement this presents at camp imagine the stress at home when guns are an issue or if the parent cannot afford to buy a water gun. This to me is not the inclusion the Y so heavily promotes and left my son and family at odds all week. Please know I will forever support and be involved in all the greatest of the Richmond YMCA, but wanted to provide this feedback.
My 8 year old loved the program and the bus shuttle system was a lifesaver....Count us in for next year for sure - multiple weeks!
great activities, challenging, rewarding and fun for my 8 year old
It’s true outdoor, traditional summer camp fun without having to send your child to sleep away camp. The provided bus transportation makes this special experience accessible when it would otherwise have been too great a commute for us. They are active all day long, getting great exercise and learning new skills. My son has never once come home and said he had a boring day!
Always active
Our daughters both loved the camp and activity experiences that it provided during their time as Camp Thunderbird over the summer.
My son loved the marksmanship & the zip line
I love the variety, organization of events, and clear communication to the parents - great job!
The fun activities the communication
CTYMCA offers so many opportunities to grow and have fun! The programs challenge the kids which builds confidence. The activities keep them busy so they get plenty of exercise. It’s a great experience and worth the investment whether you go just one week or the whole summer.
Efficient, caring staff. Great variety of fun activities.
My son enjoy the activities, ziipline and swimming daughter enjoying archery
I love that the camp is privately owned by the Y and that it is closely monitored for the kids’ safety. Also, the bus and the camp Thunderbird employees were fantastic. We loved all of the novel activities you introduced to the kids at camp. Fort building, making things with objects from nature, new ball games, etc. we loved it!
Great time for kids. And hours!!
Outdoor activities
Everyone that have interacted with has been wonderful. Love the staff. Great outdoor activities. My grandson had so much fun
lots of variety and the kids are active all day long
I love that the kids are outside and active all day. My oldest (age 12) has gotten really good in marksmanship and it's been nice to see her so proud of her skills. She hung up her 3 bullseyes on the fridge!! I also like that the staff is so friendly and upbeat.

Camp Thunderbird offers a variety of outdoor activity's for my children. My children are always excited and exhausted. The price is very affordable.
