I appreciate the wide offering’s of fitness classes, everything from boxing to yoga. The staff is engaging, instructive and professional. Fitness directors seem to be seeking constant improvement by use of surveys, being present and available. I frequently recommend the Melrose Y to just about everyone!
I attend morning water aerobics classes two to three days a week. All three instructors are excellent-each has a different style, so no two classes are exactly alike. They are enthusiastic and personable, and are totally dedicated to their students. We are always given a full workout!
The pool is clean and well maintained, and there is always ample equipment for all participants. Front desk staff is always warm and welcoming. The Melrose Y is definitely a place that makes you want to come back!

I am a senior with osteoarthritis. I find Beatrice's (Bea we call her) aqua stretch class wonderful 3 days per week (Mon, Tues, & Thurs) at 1:00 pm. We actually do some fitness, cardio routines in the class. I can do things in this class & in the water with the bouyency that my arthritis doesn't allow me to do on land. This class keeps me moving better all around. I enjoy the group, the social aspect & routine with an ongoing group, the instructor-member relationship, & exercise & fun with other members while meeting new members when they join us also. Great class; hope it doesn't get cancelled; I'd be heartbroken!
I've always had a fear of water and had a lackluster series of classes a few years before to learn how to swim (these classes never worked out due to subpar teaching!!). However, the team at YMCA Melrose (Ashley is my main instructor; Nick has been filling in for her last couple of days) is AMAZING and I have never felt comfortable in the water than now. In 30+ years of living, I can finally be fully submerged under water and not feel that deep pressure on my chest or freak out...woooo!
I am really looking forward to finishing this set of classes AND sign up for the fall session whenever that comes online!

Many choices/times/days/variety
There are several high intensity workout classes to choose from and having different locations helps me fit them into my schedule. The instructors make all the difference in any workout and the YMCA have fantastic instructors!
The aquatic program is run very professionally. Each of the children's needs are met in both group and individual classes bases on their skills and comfort levels. Roubins is very responsive, accommodating, and professional. He is a great asset to the YMCA of melrose. He takes the time to say hello, make you feel welcome and makes the children feel safe and at ease.
I think the instructors doing the classes are excellent. I’ve used many facilities, including fit life Melrose and the club at Charles River Park and personal training through fitness together Melrose and the classes and instructors are comparable. The amount of classes offered with the membership are appreciated and there are many to choose from at various times which is better than most health club facilities! The best is the ability to use the sister YMCA’s for other class options
When I was a young boy I loved playing basketball ,
Swimming, canteen dance upstairs on the 3rd floor.
Then moved away and years later returned to the area and started swimming classes, pickle ball and having fun meeting people at the Melrose YMCA.

Variety of programs with good people in charge
Water aerobics. Please bring back more deep end classes. We used to have two deep end plus a Hydro Pilates class in the deep end. Now we only have one deep end class on Tuesday morning. Members . with joint problems like the deep end classes, so please consider us.

Kay does a great Senior exercise class on Tues Thurs and Friday very good class

I only go on Mon and Fri. The water aerobics instructors are very good.

Classes and instructors are great !
TRX, chair yoga n yoga, Melt, Pilates, Live Strong to name a few. All the instructors are Excellent!!!
