I like being able to book a lane at a specific time vs haphazard pre Covid arrangement.
I take the Tai Chi class that is offered Monday and Wednesday and have found it to have improved my overall health. The breathing, balance, and meditative aspects have been excellent. And frankly the introduction of martial arts and self protection aspect from this teacher have greatly lifted my self confidence as a senior.
Lot's of options
The variety of activities
Age appropriate, positive coaching. Coach Scott has coached my child for several years, and he was his primary coach last year. Coach Scott has the unique ability to be caring and positive and still push the swimmers to swim at a very high level. His coaching skills are reflected by the fact that the kids talk about how much they like him and the boys placed higher than they ever have at the YMCA National Championships. Scott has a short term and long term visions for the team that are well thought out and for the interests of bettering the swimmers and GCY.
Flexibility in practice times.
Coaches who take time to work on technique and to get to know what motivates their swimmers
I believe that there is something for everyone. The programs are very inclusive.
It was very hard at first but I got use to it and thought it was very good for me. I now continue to exercise in my outdoor pool. Gladys DeVos
Wonderful way to exercise when you have issues with your joints
Flexibility
Great for the youth
Joan is a great water fitness instructor. She pays careful attention to form so we get the most out of our exercises, and she is very knowledgeable about how to modify exercises for people with various physical issues.
I do wish the Y would dedicate the family pool to our classes when they are in session (or at least the first 3/4 of the pool). People coming into the exercise space are very distracting and at times Joan has to modify what we are doing to avoid them. Also, I hope when school is out for the summer, we will not have families and children in the pool during classes. This is also very distracting.
Joan is a great instructor!
Friendly professional instructor and evening hours.
I appreciate all the excellent communication and we adored our coaches
the waterworks programs are fanastic!! they start on time, instructor is flexible or open to each student's needs and helps us adjust excerises to our needs or limits. There is always support for whatever stage the sudent is at. instructor is courteous, friendly and supportive. This Bryan location is close to my home.
Great team culture- coaches are highly engaged and are looking out for the swimmers best interest.

Easy going environment for first timers!
Awesome Ymca
The swim lesson instructor was great. She was very patient and attentive to the kids.
Love it, great program, great instructors
My son loves swimming more than anything in the world. He thrives under the coaching staff at GCY, looks forward to every single practice and meet, and always says that the coaches are his favorite thing about swimming, in particular Coach Scott, who has been patiently coaching him for many years now, and Coach Joann, who he admires for her own achievements as a master's swimmer. I am hopeful that the recent leadership changes on the team will result in better/more timely communication re: meets and practices/times/locations, and even perhaps some emphasis on improving camaraderie among our families such as a parent email list or better communication that will allow us to pursue carpools and arrange to have dinner after certain meets, or team meetings that include the parents where we can learn about the sport of swimming/its organizational structure, proper nutrition for the kids, and how to incorporate strength training or stretching into their overall regimen, things that the kids might hear from the coaching but which we might be able to help reinforce at home. I'm also hopeful that practice group requirements will be enforced so that the kids can train appropriately without being held back for less experienced swimmers, or risking injury from overtraining. There is a lot of room for improvement in team communication, but I have high hopes that it's going to improve in the coming months. Scott and Cynthia seem like they're a great team already.
We love the homeschool swim. Great pace, and we loved Coach Brad. The other instructors are pretty good too.
I love our coaches! They are informative, communicate well, and develop great individuals not just great swimmers!
Tons of times offered. Excellent coaching.
