The staff and availability of access
Well equipped gym, and the validated parking is very convenient. The staff is always pleasant and helpful.
I have been a member of the Y since it was located on Palafox Street.
I enjoy the group fitness classes like spin and body pump. Andrea is my favorite spin instructor.
This year I started the Master Swim class. Coach Sarah is great and has taught me different strokes and how to swim more efficiently. She is very encouraging.
Great people that work there, great instructors.

Hope more Zumba or step class in everything class
I think too much body pump….
I have been a member of the Y since the days on Palafox. I recently returned after a 2 1/2 year absence during the Covid pandemic. I have always appreciated the health supporting aspects of the Y, and the Bear, Levin, Studer YMCA facility is top notch. The exercise equipment on the main floor is extensive and varied. It makes it possible for people at a wide range of fitness levels to engage in appropriate exercise. The equipment is well-maintained, and new equipment is introduced from time to time. New “water-rowers” have just been installed, and they are excellent. The facility, the equipment and the wide-ranging programs are all supportive of folks’ health. I also appreciate that the Y extends its excellent programs to community members who need discounted fees and scholarships in order to enjoy the program benefits.
While all of the above comments are true and important, I particularly appreciate the quality of the staff members of the Y with whom I have had contact. JUDY, ROSE and JOANN are generally the first smiling faces I encounter in the early mornings when I arrive. They are consistently pleasant and welcoming. JOANN recently helped me make the most of my time on the rowing machines, and she always has a few witty, supportive comments. JOSH, BREE and the other folks (whose names I don’t yet know) who work on the main floor are always pleasant, and I have noticed them welcoming and assisting any members who need guidance and/or support. I recently met TRENTON who appears to be pretty young, but he gives the impression of being much more mature than his apparent age-another impressive Y staffer. BONNIE taught my grandson how to swim, a project that he was not too happy about at first. She responded to all of the kids in a firm, supportive and affirming manner and made them all safer. BONNIE also handled a big group of anxious parents and grandparents with ease-very impressive.
Recently I had an experience with BREE and another Y staffer whose name I have forgotten (apologies to her, she is young and has blonde hair and has an office on the main exercise floor). I was using one of the elliptical trainers, and one of my AirPods fell out of my ear. I heard it hit the floor, but I was unable to find it. I saw BREE at her work desk, and I asked her to see if one of the machine maintenance guys could open the elliptical trainer up at some point and see if the AirPod had bounced inside it. If she had just said “yes,” I would have been happy. However, she did something I absolutely did not expect-she came over to the elliptical trainer and began crawling around on the floor searching for the AirPod. She soon recruited the very nice blonde lady whose name I can’t recall to join us, and she also happily got on the floor and searched along with us. I was stunned at the level of kindness and outstanding member support displayed by these two young ladies. A final, happy surprise was that later in the day they actually found the AirPod! The nice blonde lady called me to let me know that they had found it and that she was leaving it on her desk so that I could pick it up the next morning. Finally, when I arrived the next day, TRIXIE opened the office and the AirPod was actually right where I was told it would be. (It might appear that I’m making a pretty big deal out of a routine event, but I am just not used to people putting so much effort into helping members/customers, clearly going “above and beyond” in their efforts.) I don’t know how the Y’s administration is able to select and train staff members to so consistently perform at a high level, but I am very grateful that it does. (I suspect that the Y must follow the Studer model of staff selection and development.)
Finally, a brief comment about ANDREA. She has also been supportive, kind and patient with me over the years of my Y membership. I always know that I can check with Andrea no matter what I need help with. She will either resolve the issue herself or put me in touch with someone who can. Her assistance is always delivered with a smile.
I like that the staff is always so welcoming to incoming people
I just want to say that the y staff at the front desk are very friendly, especially JoAnn. She always greet me with a smile. She asks how my workout was and always interested in what I have to say. I have observed JoAnn speaking with other members. She is always so cheerful and a pleasure to be around.
All employees are super nice and helpful. I could work out in Milton but this facility is much better fit for me. So, it's worth the drive. Keep up the good work I love working out there.
